This circular brooch and a Kristiana Religio Denar came today on the Viking Trading Place.
The coin is struck during the reign of the Carolingan Emperor, Ludovicus Pius and minted about 820-840 AD.
The brooch would be of the same age, I think.
I am quite sure that it is not a ring, but a disc brooch (also in some countries called fibula) of the early Viking age.
It is rather typical.
The mounts on the back ment to be holding the needle are broken off.
Well, I think that they are rather cool.
So old, the only thing that I have found that is old for here is a 1866 British Penny, which is way off the mark
Its hard to imagine how many people touched/held them.
Didn´t know you were hunting at night, CRUSADER !!
Here a picture of the entire find of that day.
Upper left, an unknown lead item.
Two small pieces of hack silver, three pieces of silver.
A disc brooch, three pieces of arab Dirham coins.
Three lead weights.
A Kristiana Religio Denar.
All Viking age.
Cru was hunting all night... and some others like me went to the chinese for All You can eat supper and fell asleep soon!
Old coins are one thing, but hunting a viking trading spot is another. Love the idea to do something myself. Years ago i visited Haithabu, sat down on the rampart and looked over this place. You could nearly hear the voices....
Now that's the kind of thing i need to be finding!!!
Hopefully the new EU directive forcing Sweden to change it's detecting laws will be for the better, and i will finally be able to detect in soil!
