UPDATE--WOW!! BUCKLE BEAUTY...1683 Mass Property

Hi gang,

We found our most complete and pretty buckle yet. It cleaned up nicely! I'm having some difficulty dating it. I have attached a bunch of photos. Also found this cool little thimble. We're off to check out your "today's finds." Thanks for looking. -Lisa & John

UPDATE--Guys, John pulled out that huge shoe buckle frame he found a few weeks back, and would you believe that the shoe buckle innards fit exactly into it?! Check out the new photos. Even the brass looks and feels the same. Coincidence? Found them about 100 feet apart. Hey, even if it is a coincidence, it's so cool. Thanks for looking. -L&J

Although that Tongue & Chape would have gone in a very similar buckle Frame to the one you picture, to me they are not a pair. The centre pin would have gone into the holes further than your example, so that the Chape was flush with the inner edge of the Frame. But displaying them together, is not an issue, many will never notice.

Thanks for the explanation, Cru. Perhaps they can be a pair after all! -L&J

I should have explained that yesterday evening, but was headed off to bed. There are examples of a long space between the frame and chape with pin exposed, but the ones I've seen are "decorative" buckles for formal occasions.

Lisa+John,

So there you have it an International crew piecing the puzzle together for you....and they will look great together in a display case.

No worries, Scrappy! I downloaded Whitehead's buckle book and look forward to browsing through it. Thanks again! -L&J

Congrats on that sweet buckle. :occasion14: Wow I'd sure like to find one as nice as your's.
