Ive done a few hours of research into a spot that once had a fort from the early 1800
s. From what I read the fort was occupied by mexican forces but was originally occupied by the spanish. These items are the results of my first 3 hours on the ground. I am hoping these may be from the period. Unfortunetly I cant find anything on line about the buttons, and the back marks arent clean enough to determine if they have any identifying marks.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
TJ

The first one is just a civilian designed button, maybe 1830s or 40s.

The 2nd is interesting. Definitely foreign, can you read the letters around the edge? That will give a hint to the country and make it easier to track down.

The first is Flower Button, The rest is very interesting. I t would be nice to know what kind they are. Congradulations.....

The first button "flower" is very heavy.

As for the second , The best I can come up with are the letters V G G G R on the opposite side It looks like I see the number 5 but I have stared at it so long that I might be imagining things. The crust from the reverse has come off enough for me to say that it may be blank.

can you give me an idea of how you can determine its 1830's or 1840's?

The first one is a mid 1800's flower button as others have mentioned. But the second one looks like a Spanish or Mexican miltary button. John Powell, who created this website, may be able to help you with an ID. You might be able to get his contact info through the website or on the internet. He is a well known collector.

The unknown seems to be early 1800s, and the crown I think fits with the Mexican/Spain history. If that's a G on the front it could be a Guards button of some sort... Guardias. There's a lot of different Spanish and Mexican buttons from that period. (especially Spanish)

Thank You Iron Patch, Ill check out the web address you gave. I appreciate your time.

Still some work to do to ID that one, and I really just added the website for interest sake.
