2025 started out rough for me. I had 3 surgery's from Feb to May and lost my brother in March and my mom in April. Haven't had a whole lot of ambition to get out and do much of anything. But I have gotten out twice.
An old friend ,who is in his late 80s ,told me about an old cabin site he used to camp at about an hour and a half away from here, on a friends property, he secured me permission and said his friend said I could keep whatever I find. So I took off yesterday and got over there and got a hotel room.
Felt good this morning ,got up early and drove to the spot he lined out and unloaded the ATV. It only took about 45 mins to find the spot. I found a few relics and was getting worn out pretty quick . I was ready to head back down to the truck and head home, then I ran the GTI 2500 over the rock foundation and in about 5mins got a trashy iron hit. Honestly , I had visions , hopes and dreams that it might be a pistol but it wasn't it was just a little can,,,,,, with 8 nuggets in it ☺😎🌞🎆🎉 I guess I need to get out more !!!

Some GREAT IDEAS :) Good LUCK !!!

Thanks for all the replies !! Minerjosh and Treepro, there is no water on the property , there is a known placer area appx 10 miles from the site. I have found flour gold there in my younger days but no nuggets. Looking forward to some more trips to the site before the snow.

Thanks Silvermonkey !! I hope so !!!☺

let me tell you this....you dont need water nearby for a placer deposit, There are placer deposits that are long dried up and covered up. High up on hills and mountains where a stream was thousands or millions of years ago. I metal detect nuggets and have found some great placer nuggets way up on hills and mountains very far from any current stream. there are ancient stream beds that are buried in places that you would never expect. if you see any rounded rocks at all they were put there by water at some time. and sometimes you wont find any round rocks until you dig, and that layer may be deep
Minerjosh, thanks for your input and sharing your knowledge !! I have been hunting gold for around 46 years now, I have dredged, sluiced, dry washed, high banked and done some hardrock and of course detecting. I have found gold from Cripple Creek Col to Golden New Mexico. I know about ancient river beds .
Unfortunately , my heart and lungs won't let me dig much, that's why I got an ATV ☺ I included some old pics of nuggets from my first nugget patch that we hit appx 40 feet above a dry wash in New Mexico and my first home made sluice.Keep your batteries fresh ☺ p.s sorry for the pics, they were taken from an old vhs tape.

Well heck! You already have all the knowledge about what I mentioned in my comment about looking for a creek or river based on the appearance of those nuggets…. lol. I was “preaching to the choir” so to speak!!! Haha.

I can completely relate and understand your ailments as I’m right there with you my friend!! Unless I had a large excavator to dig a bunch of pits in search of ancient river beds, those ancient river beds will have to wait to be found by someone else 😆. Best of luck with your health and future detecting!!

Tree, I do know my way around the gold fields, but will never claim to " know it all " always appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge, and experience !!! That's how we all learn !! Over 40 years ago a late friend took me under his wing and taught me ☺ Now I'm trying to teach my granddaughters.

Hi Charlie,
Sorry for your loss and being able to keep going. You know they would want you do get out and not dwell on their passing. Your little nuggets are rough. Meaning they don't have appeared to have traveled very far. You might start poking around up stream with a pan and maybe find the source. Just a thought and would get you out there. Good luck and enjoy what time we have left.
