The guy told me there was no way he could get me Half Dollars at face value. Every single coin they order they pay above face value for because of gas prices.

That sounds like a rip off deal to me. All banks get coins delivered at least weekly. Maybe the overall charges the bank pays for the delivery have gone up due to fuel cost, but I cannot imagine that adding a few boxes of halves to the order increases the costs.

If I had to pay for halves more than face I would not be a CRHer. It would take a dream box every time to recoup the costs just to buy the boxes. One of the great things about CRHing is getting silver for face value. If I am going to pay extra for silver, I may as well go to the coin store and buy some 90% or .999 bars and not waste time and fuel running around town buying then dumping the rejects.

I have had banks in my area offer to order boxes for me (for free) when I called inquiring if they had any halves, and I did not even have an account at their banks. These are the big chain type banks. The smaller, local kind always ask if I have an account. When I say no, they say "sorry charlie".
