Canadian Half Dollar

How many half dollar searchers in the United States have gotten canadian half dollars while CRH'ing?
How many have you gotten over the years?
Any other foreign coins found in half dollar rolls?
Which foreign coins are most common?

I am a beginner half dollar box searcher and am curious about foreign coins, especially canadian, found while CRH'ing.

I've only found 1 British Penny, 1898, in a roll of halves, but if you want to talk about the dimes, I've found coins from many other countries. France, Phillipenes, Canada, Caymen Islands, Mexico, England, The Netherlands, Bermuda, Brazil, Venezuela, India, Hong Kong,
and Australia. I may even have missed a few. It's always an adventure hunting rolls. I don't mind the foreign ones so much, but the dirty stinkers who rig the dime rolls with a penny and then short the roll by as many as 5 dimes just burns me up. Good Luck with your hunting. : )

Thanks, I've did 2 boxes of dimes and have gotten no foreigns but 2 silvers, 1947p and 1963p on the 2nd box. box 1 was a skunk.
did 2 boxes of half dollars, no foreign, 7 silvers (1- 90%, 6- 40%)

Foreign coins are my favorite to find. I haven't got and canadian halves (still looking), but I have gotten a 1968 canadian dollar in a roll (not the loonie). I've also gotten a nazi 1 pfennig and foreign coins from over 30 different countries. The most common ones (besides canada) are England and Mexico

Here are my totals:

Canada: Only 1 Half Dollar ever, from 1872 with an H Mintmark (Silver). It's also the oldest coin I've ever gotten.

India: 1 Ruppee from 1918 (Silver)

Hong Kong: 1 Dollar (same size as Half Dollar) from the 1970s

England: A few of the Giant Pennies and one Two Shillings from 1941 (Silver) (I think, it was during the war sometime)

Panama: 1 Balboa Coin from 1970s

That's it in half dollar rolls. Plenty of foreign in Nics and Pennies.

Yeah, I think it would be interesting to find a canadian half dollar, I too enjoy finding foreign coins in rolls, but not as much as finding silver :laughing7:

Wow, you seem to do good finding foreign silver in half dollar rolls

they could sell for more than 50 cents each as well, especially with today's price of silver! Thanks for the response!

just for the info, Canada's 1872-H half dollar has a mintage of 80,000 and is book valued at $55 in VG-8.
0.3456 oz of silver in it, currently worth $11.24 melt

I knew the 1872 H was a good date, but mine is AG3 at best - can barely make out the date. Oh well, it's still in the top 3 of coolest coins I've found CRH! Pretty awesome when I saw Queen Victoria staring back at me!!!

I have found 2 or 3 silver canadian halves from the 50's. Pretty cool coins.

I found 1 Canadian half in a customer roll a couple of years back, i think it was a 1963. By far, i find more canadian cents then any other foreign coin in my searches. I did find a silver Rupee in a machine roll once and some other foreign coins going back into the mid-1800s from machine rolls.

Nice finds! 1963 canadian half dollar is 80% silver and contains 0.30 oz pure silver!
I'd be happy just to find one canadian half dollar, silver would make it a bonus!

I think that since canadian coins are magnetic, the machine that sorts them do not pull out pennies, nickels or dimes due to low FV coin.
I think the magnet picks out modern ones because a canadian half dollar could be considered a loss of $.50 instead of a loss of $.01 or $.05

In the past three years I've gotten 2 silver Canadian half dollars. The only other Half dollar size silver coins I have gotten was a 1964 Balboa and a 1964 20Greek drachma.
Other common foreign coins in this size that I get are from Ecuador,Dominican Republic,Kuwait, British Pennies,and Irish punts.

Well, a little out of date

. Most of Canadian coins found in America are non-magnetic. This is why, CRH keep getting so many Canadian cents and 1982-2001 nickels, or Canadian silver coins. All others are being put in reject tray or stuck to a counter magnet. By the way, a half-dollar from 19th century is an impressive find. :icon_thumright:

Only found 1 canadian half ever as well and it was a silver 1963 (80% from canada)

found a few "Two-nies" in some half dollar rolls a while back as well.
