I paid $45.00 for a 1818 Capped bust on ebay. It appears to have the pincher eight variety. How much do you think it is worth in this condition and with the rare variety. oh yeah you can not see the pinchers that well in the picture

What? Your name is Coinman" and you don't own "The Offficial Red Book" for checking US coin values? ;-)

My 2007 copy of that book ("A Guide Book of United States Coins" by R.S. Yeoman) says the lowest-condition (Good-4) of the most common variety of US half-dollar coin was $60. Scarcer varieties of the 1818 in Good-4 condition were $85. Note, that was six years ago. You can buy the up-to-date edition of that book for about $15.

Hard to say from the image you provided but im pretty sure it would grade a details coin(i.e. damaged/cleaned etc.. ). I would say good buy if it is indeed the variety but like i said the image is poor and no reverse photo makes it hard to value.

Coinman123, I did notice that the "pincher 8" variety is not listed in the Red Book, but I figured it (the Red Book) would at least give you a bottom-floor value -- which is higher than what you paid for your 1818 half-dollar.

As Coinguy*matthew mentioned, well-focused closeup photos of your coins front and back would be helpful.

Since it's not in the Red Book, please educate us about the "pincher 8" variety. I'd like to learn about it, and perhaps others here would too.

Notice how the top of the eights on the coin have gaps those are the pinchers

Upon researching the "pincher" variety, it seems to be a Overton 108, Very Common one and I would think what you paid is in the ball park for that variety, based on what I have seen listed at auctions.
