Went to an indoor Church rummage sale from 6-8pm this evening. This was the first night of three days and they charged $3 to get in the door tonight only, Friday and Saturday is free admission.I went straight for the jewlery tables and began picking out silver. My finds are as follows all marked .925 or sterling except one or two pieces.

1. .50 cent earing 6 grams
2. .50 cent earing 3.5 grams
3. $1 religous medal(from a group of 5 marked 5 for a dollar, the other four were junk) 6.6 grams
4. .50 cent earing 6.3 grams
5. $1.00 silver cross marked Joy Mex Michcoen then a crown plata o .925 6.9 grams
6. $2.00 earing 3.7 grams
7. $5 ring 4.9 grams
8. $2 chain 2 grams
9. $3 ring looks homemade not marked but definitely silver 8.7 grams
10 .75 cents for two gold filled chains with charms marked 1/20 12k gf 3.2 grams
11 $1 unmarked trimetal looking gold, silver, copper ring.took a chance on this one, weird it tests positive for
silver? 1.4g(250-260 on my gt-4000 tester)
total spent $17.25+$3=$20.25 for 48.5 grams of silver and 3.2 grams of gold filled.(including #11)

Tomorrow is another church sale, they are charging a $7 entry for the first night from 6-8pm, is this cover charge normal? It eats into my profits....

What woud you start the silver cross on ebay at? Im thinking $15-$20 range??? What would you value it as a jewlery piece? Thanks for looking....

Your tri-metal thing looks to be coloured gold.

The copper-looking stuff is most likely to be rose gold which is gold with a high percentage of copper alloyed with it.

The green would be green gold which is gold alloyed with a high percentage of silver.

It might also be called "black hills gold"

Most of these alloyed jewelry stuff is fairly low purity, 9-14K.

So I'd test it again and see because I think it might very well be gold :icon_thumright:

on Ebay type in "vintage silver" and see what pops up and what they are starting at...a lot of people seem to have success with the .99 cent start off, I did this week, it`s a gamble I know

I've always start the day at church rummage sales, if I can find them. They always seem to have the silver for cheap and they are also good places to cruise for antique engravings.

I have always started my precious metal listings at .99. They have always sold well. Then I listed a vintage 625 gram Tiffany Sterling box. It sold for a measly $345. Then the buyer backed out because they said they entered the wrong amount. I'm glad because I didn't really want it to go for less than scrap, considering it is a Tiffany piece. I figured it would go for a premium. Go figure. Now, i'm not so sure.

ps- tech125, the markings on your cross are listed on page 85 of Billie Hougart's "little book of mexican silver trade and hallmarks" book. You can add that in your listing if you want. It's a nice looking cross. I think it's worth the 15 or 20 you want, and it may sell for that. But it is a crapshoot nowadays with the silver. The box I was selling is not mine or I wouldn't be selling it. I may just buy it myself and keep it. I've been holding most of my silver for the last couple years anyway. It's been dropping in price ever since I made that decision. :BangHead:

Diggummup, Thank you for your research on my cross piece.I really need to buy that book by Bille Hougart, it will come in handy for the future...I think I will be in hoard mode with most of my silver pieces until the price goes up, which is fine with me.Church sales and garage sales are in full swing here so many that I cant goto all the ones I really want to.

Cool finds Rob. That's something I gotta do more is hit up garage sales. There are always bargains to be had out there.
