cibola question

I am a cibola user from southern middle tennessee. The cibola has preset ground balance and with the soil in my area being somewhat mild, it tends to run as quiet as a mouse. But lately I have been checking the ground balance by turning the detector on, holding the pinpoint/all metal button down ( from waist high ) turning the threshold knob until I hear an audible threshold, and then slowly lowering the coil to the ground. The threshold seems to always increase in pitch as it nears the ground, meaning a positive ground balance right ? Question is, is a slightly positive ground balance conductive to better detecting or should I consider sending the unit back to tesoro along with some various soil samples and have them adjust the ground balance ? Thanks in advance for all advice !

A slightly positive ground balance is not a bad thing. That's always how I set the GB on my Tejon.

Dan is right. Most of the manuals recommend setting the GB slightly positive.
