How does the Cibola perform on gold as compared to the Compadre? I am hoping the higher frequency on the Cibola puts them in a similar class; that and the fact that they're both 180 machines for true all metal.

Also, does anyone use the Clean Sweep coil with their Cibola? How do you like it and do you feel you get at least 5" depth out of it?

Vaquero will be better suited to some gold action over the Cibola. More adjustability and the manual ground balance is great to have (and very easy to do after a few times). Have not swung the Clean Sweep - save some money and get the 12"x10" Widescan (DD) coil instead. It is a depth monster... :icon_thumright:

If you are talking nuggets instead of gold jewelry it will find them, but they have to have size to them. The Cibola does not have the guts to find the small pieces of gold and can also not respond to a thin gold chain. It has very little to do with the freq. it has but its whole circuits and amount of sens. and gain. It also doesn't have the ground balance that you need. All detectors can find gold jewelry if you don't use to much disc.

I have never used the CSC on the lower model Tesoro's but only on the Tejon and Tiger Shark. It isn't as deep as the 10X12 but covers a lot of ground fast at 6 to 7 inches deep. Pinpoints fast off the tip or heel and you can slide the tip close to metal objects like fences or sidewalks with rebars. You don't need to chop big holes in the grass which waste a lot of time.

Thanks Sandman.

Someone had told me the CSC got only 3"-4" depth. Glad to hear its better than that.

I found gold with my cibola and one was size of a eraser. got 75vbucks for itt. also found .22k gold piece of ring. my dumbbut should of looked rest of pieces. just keep it just about iron. i never had issues

could have been different soil, emi, settings etc:

One thing about Tesoro is they do go deep , a lot deeper than most think or say. But Ground Balance will help if you are in soil with a lot of Iron in it .

So True. I didn't always find coins at 7" as it depends on the dirt, halo, moisture, etc.

i found .22 bullet at 8inchs

I have never tried nugget hunting with my Cibola, but it will pick up 000 lead buckshot....and deep too.

Hi Smudge:

I have owned a Cibola now for 2 full seasons.

Last season of hunting the parks, I managed 15 gold rings and 15 Silver rings. Just last week I found my first gold ring of the season. It was only 1.2 grams with a pretty Amethyst stone in the center. I tested my Fisher F70 to see if it would give me a signal on this tiny ring, Nothing! Both, however the Cibola and the Tiger Shark gave a solid signal.

On clad last year the Cibola picked up over $560.00 worth of American and Canadian coins. And just this past week I managed my first 1965 Silver Quarter (which was near 10 inches deep) and an 1833 To Faciltate to Trade Token (oldest find for me yet!).

I love this machine, and is the one that I gravitate to for almost any situation. It's very light and will go a long way on just a 9 volt battery. It's very simple to operate and very stable in most conditions.

The only bad thing is that without the ground balance (such as in the Vaquero), you're kind of limited to more average soils, and you can't really change the coils to change with the situations. But overall, and for the price you can't go wrong, it's a true work horse. I might pick up a Vaquero in a few years but I would never give up this Cibola.

Good luck on your decision, :icon_thumright:
