Went to a new permission to today for about and hour just to see whats going on there...Its a bed and breakfast. .11acres..The inn was built in 1760s..2nd family since it was built. ..Anyway was just roaming around this field and I got this hit that said it was 6inch down. ..Dug down and it was more like 10...New it was going to be big... this is what I saw.
I could not believe it....I was over the moon
So I slowed down and about 50 feet from there I found this...thought it was the other half but I was wrong...Its the eagle. ..Now I dont know why these would be there...If they are civil war. .I know there was training camps in the area...
Any help with I'd would be great....
I do know there was fighting going on in the revolutionary war...BUT I DONT THINK SO.....Thanks in advance. ..
George. .

Ivan, look at post 22 and click to enlarge the pic. You can read all about the exact one George found.

congrats on finding that amazing piece of history!

I've only seen this buckle at a relic show before... Now I can say i've seen two! Congrats on your once in a lifetime find - chances are there may be another banner find on that property.

Was it dug?

I'm going back a few years but I believe Kevin Hoffman of Civil War Preservations has the buckle with the original buff leather belt... He owns a few styles of these if i recall... I'd say you probably have only a handful of these that are actually dug in-tact. Completely amazing find!

Congratulations on that (those) spectacular finds!! The cerebral part of my brain is always wondering just how stuff like this ends up in the ground, 50 feet apart no less? It's as though someone had them both in their hand and just flung them...who knows when they did it or why. And then after all of those years you were able to link them back together again just as they once were. That, my friend, is simply incredible. I should hope we all get so lucky to have finds of this magnitude.

Stellar piece of history saved from the elements!!

Yeah, Vino's story sounds better than the one where the soldier got caught with another man's wife, is running for his life, trying to get his' pants back on and lost one and then the other!:dontknow::tongue3:

That is banner all the way. It is amazing what is still in the ground. 50 ft apart. I would have pulled a KG and Ringy screaming and jumping around like a crazy person fit if I would have found that! Although i don't do that...I would have finding that...Congrats on such a great piece of history!
