Hey Gang, I found this buckle B.S. (before snow :laughing7:) in an area that has produced finds from Rev.War/Civil War up to V Nickels. It is 1" long, brass and is marked C . F . J . with the dots spaced apart. I found one almost identical to it in Howard Crouch's book, and he states: A typical suspender buckle of the Civil War era. Actually 1" long, this specimen is gilted brass and marked "Paris" and "1854."[ I haven't been able to find out any information on the CFJ company. All help and ideas would be appreciated. Breezie

Thanks for posting your buckle. I can't tell from the pics, but is yours marked the C F J Paris? Nice find, Breezie

Um, congratulations Breezie, I think. I tried reading this thread but finally gave up. :dontknow:Then i read it again after shootin' up with marijuana and it made a lot more sense! :sign13: I was even able to fill in the missing parts. So to sum it up you have found the first evidence of civil war para-troopers who were sent here from a foreign country with sinister plans to take over the government.
The only question left to answer is "did they succeed?"
I am going to do some more dope if I can get the dadgum seeds out of the needle. Y'all have a good one now, hear.

LOL fyrffytr1, Let me see if I can explain. . . . .there was a past member here who shall I say was . . .ahhh, somewhat eccentric . . .and her posts are missing. Actually, her missing posts make as much sense as those that were posted! :laughing7: Breezie

Breezie, I thought you might want to know ...I believe the date is not a Patent-date, but rather the year of manufacture, because I've personally seen those objects with a "raised" date-mark of almost every year between 1850 and 1865.

Some great info on these buckles posted in this thread. Did anyone find a value on these little guys? I've looked but can't seem to find a value anywhere.

I just found one of those in a , known civil war camp right next to part of a silver pocket watch dating back to 1864 and a copper grommet.. My buckle says France and was made by the Hodges Bros. Looks like they were made by many different companies. I am thinking with the other items that are in this area it was the Union army marching from Atlanta to Willmington right before the battle of Bentonville IMG_1208.webpIMG_1209.webp
