Clad cache - yeah, I'll dig it up

Found my first cache today. Probably a kid's cache. The fun was in finding it and digging the scattering of coins. It was at the base of a tree along a trail in the woods. Probably a half mile from any house.
It wasn't the biggest tree, overlooking a pond, or marked in any way. I was hiking and and heard a coin on the side of the trail. One coin led to another. After about 50 coins I hiked out and left my detector in the car and returned with my lesche and propointer. Dug about 70 more coins. They were around the base of the tree. I kept thinking I would find a box or wood or paper bag. Nope. The were all around the base and trailed off for a couple of feet.
This was not a picnic type of tree or anything. Along the trail I find a coin here or there but these were buried. I thought maybe the tree grew through it but the coins went from 60's to 2000's. There are probably 20-30 more coins I'll find with the detector but I think I nabbed most of em.

That would be cool to find! I want to find a little stash like that! Would be nice to have a hunt with more coins than trash! ;)

Yeah it seemed like some kids robbed grandma's change dish. Why they didn't put it in a container of some sort I don't know. It was a real random tree to choose.

That would of been pure torture the entire time.. just think about it. It could of been indians and barbers..

Maybe a coin snatching squirrel and that was his retirement nest egg? :laughing7:

Yeah, I'd dig it too. But I'd rather see you posting that other half of the cufflink you found :laughing7:

Yeah the goal for sure is a colonial cache. This is sort of how the hobby is for me- look for clad and I find a musket ball..I look for a cufflinks and I find a piggy bank.
I'm still blown away about how random this tree was and wonder about the story behind it. I typically check prominence rocks and trees by swimming holes where people empty theory pockets or throw down a change of clothes. This was none. Could have been any tree. I'll probably be searching the trees around in case there was some other stashes. Point is you just never know.
