It came off a 1715 fleet shipwreck beach seems a cut up coin would be odd

Spaniards "trimmed" coins to cheat. after trimming a dozen coins there would be enough silver for another coin.

Thats a nice deer cowrie you got there. Where did you get it?

Thanks y'all
Trimming sounds feasible for sure..
I got eight of those cowrie shells on a 1715 fleet beach at last night's low tide.
I managed to ruin my camera last night too... I rinsed "everything" when I was done.
That is not where the piece in the photo came from though.. just modern coins..pull tabs and iron bits last night.

Could also have been carried and lost by anyone--not directly associated with the wrecks.
What is the length of that piece (radius) in cm.?
Or, what is its weight in grams?
Coins were trimmed, yes, but this piece, if a coin, appears not to have been trimmed, but cut into an 1/8th of the main coin.

1.905 cm. At its widest point .. Its five eighths of an inch from the outer edge to the center I still have to convert the radius.....
OK... 1.59 cm.

GatorBoy,
Your 1.59 cm radius item might, in fact, be 1/8th of a 4 reales coin (34mm diameter) ; or equal to 1/2 real.
Then again, as RELICDUDE07 mentioned, it could be anything used as money as long as the fineness and weight are known.
Don....

I'm pretty sure it's part of the wreck.
This is a fairly small area associated with a particular wreck there aren't just silver objects scattered about
