Coin From The Anarchy..King Stephen 1096/1154

I have not been on Treasurenet for a long time, to be honest lost a bit of passion for the detecting but I thought I might show you a first for me that I found last time out back in August.

The cut half coin is that of King Stephen from the time of the Anarchy in English history. Coins of Stephen can be hard to find and such can command high prices, they also usually be very poor in quality, so when I found this one with a nice portrait I was especially pleased.

Stephen ruled England from 1135 until 1154.

The coin is from the Carlisle Mint.

I have posted a picture of a full coin, showing what it would have looked like, and the poor condition which they are usually found.

Hopefully over the coming year after the restrictions are eased from this awful virus I can post a lot more on Treasurenet.

Hello my friend. It happens from time to time. I lost the passion for about a decade and came back to the hobby in 2006 and have stayed fired up since. When I normally experience a slump is in January, when I look at all of the empty display cases for the year to come, and look at all of the full ones from the year that’s just passed. And the more I’ve dug the previous year, the more that slump hits. It’s really good to hear from you and see you continuing to make outstanding finds such as this one. Bravo.

Surprised to see you listed as a recent post there SS and what an interesting and historical find you have to share. Indeed these recent times we're all involved with and going through got us thinking what the hell. Its definitely not a turning point in history I'm all that thrilled about being dropped in on. The cut half came from the same field and area from where I found the Earl Henry of Northumberland another coin from the civil war period, think there is a connection because its possibly a crossing point. During the battle of the standards a large army crossed the river Tees from the North and this field is in direct line of a known acient crossing used by the Romans. The battle also took place not to far from this area.

I have a fair number of hobbies, and sometimes I just need to take a break from one or another of them for a while. For me anyway, it's good to do that from time to time just to "recharge the batteries" so things don't get monotonous. I always come back to metal detecting and treasure hunting because I've always had a passion for it. I'm glad to see you're back and still making some killer finds.

Yes your correct, I couldn't get enough detecting four years ago the thing that killed my passion was finding a site that had a unrecorded roman villa on it, my friend and I detected it for seven years straight and when it stopped giving up it's secrets, I lost the passion probably realising that this site would never be repeated again.
