This coin shaped object has no markings and still embedded with dirt.
It is heavy yet can flex so I think it may be of lead composition.
Now, time to clean it. I'll post more photos if appropriate.

Any suggestions appreciated. More pics below.

Thank you.

Re: Coin shaped object dug need help

Sounds like lead. You can always drop it on a hard surface like a countertop and it it just goes "thud" it is lead.

Be careful when you clean it. There may be marks and if you scrub too hard, they could come off.

My first guess - trade weight.

Let us know what you find under the dirt.

Where did you find it?

It does "thud". The initial cleaning is making the grey color comes off (like an oxidation and is presenting in this area with more of a silverly luster look) I will post a photo once the camera can pick up the differences.
It was dug in Richmond, VA in the backyard of a home.

It's lead. Look for a number. If you can weigh it, that might help.

Also look for any holes around the edges where a wire could have gone through. It could be an unused lead seal.

The coating that is on the piece looks like oxidized old lead from what I see. Now, it still could be someone's attempt to counterfeit a coin, I have a lead counterfeit or two, so do clean it and look for details..........nothing to lose but possibly gain that you do have a lead counterfeit, although low percentage possibiity.

In the realm of counterfeits, there is the possibility it was a lead "slug" used in early coin machines. See if the diameter matches any coins.

I do not see a hole yet but this thing is hard to clean. I have used my zoom lens to let everyone see the material better after a brief shine where possible and a notch on the corner. The piece seems to have a slight lip on one side of the object. You can feel this slight lip on one side and can see in photos.

I don't think the "notch" is significant. I suppose it could be some kind of magicians coin to where a string was attached to the notch... :dontknow:

Its a recent (ish) 'knock' as you can see the shiny metal.

Gotta love the plow or signing it with your shovel. And yes, unless there are numbers, marks, holes, or stamps on it, it's a big round piece of lead.

At two inches in diameter, it is way too large to have been an attempt at a coin.

It is the Usual size for the lead backing from a Bridle Rosette. The piece also looks to be flatter on the side you posted in the second set of pics, and more curved on the other side. This trait also screams "Bridle Rosette."

I agree with BuckleBoy on bridal rosette lead backing.
