Every day when I drop my kids off at the highschool I drive past some old homes in the "Historic District". One recently caught my eye because it is vacant and has a for sale sign. Now I'm not one for making cold calls to strangers asking for permission to detect on their property but I realized that this would be an opportunity that I might regret. So I called and introduced myself. As I was talking the owner interrupted me and asked if I was Dan's brother. The answer was yes and I was in(my brother use to work for him). :)

Anyway the home was built in the 1860's but was used from about 1929 to 1980 as a city administrative building.

Surprisingly not a lot of targets. Got some teen date wheat pennies and did manage to get this beautiful 1907 Barber.

Saturday Nate and I hooked up with ZoSo. It had rained a lot Thurs & Friday so conditions were muddy. ZoSo knew the spot well and proceeded to quickly find silver. After a few hours he had five silver and Nate and I none. ZoSo had a dinner engagement and left us. Shortly after ZoSo left with his pocketful of silver Nate and I wandered along the brushline. Nate went further and then back into the woods. I was packing it up when he came out of the woods saying he found a merc and some wheat pennies.

So, pull back out the detector. By the time I had found my first wheat penny Nate had another silver dime. I just kept working at it. I found about 10 wheat pennies and then finally a nice silver sound. Out popped a SLQ. ;D Dateless of coarse but nice to find Silver. :)

Nate found another silver rosie and I found a 1947 Washington Quarter. Also found a silver plated religious medal. So it was a good way to end the day.

Great finds... That dime is in great shape...

I sure will believe you when you say "it was muddy", LOL!!!....You guys did great. Congrats!!!

looks like you dug up a whites detector too! ;D seriously though, without giving too much away, what used to be there that caused all of those awesome coins to be lost? it looks like a rather remote spot. congrats on some great finds!

Great finds, and love your display pic. Never hurts to ask, you just never know what you may miss out on.

The area was used for camping or parking for a camping area.

Excellent finds there, Mirage

You all are some hard working and dedicated MD'ers. A real asset to our hobby in every way. I am really happy to say that you are my friend Mirage! Congrats on seizing the opportunity and all the cool finds. Love those SLQ's, datless or not. But I hope your next one is a sweet key date. That Barber is a really nice coin. Yeah baby!! Keep em coming Bob!

Smiles!

Very nice dig's guys.. I'm glad I wasn't the only one with silver that day.
That SLQ is the first one to be found at the silver mine. I'm hoping there are more!
It was a muddy mess out there..I was able to find the Rosie I dropped, Bringing my total to 5 Silver coins and 2 Wheat's.

It looks like you and Nate found a pretty good spot. I'll hold out going into that area.. But if either of you get another SQL out of that area..I'm all over it ;D

Congrats

Bob- good stuff there! Think you'll hit 100 this year? ;D

The house is nice, what's the asking price? Oh, the coins are nice, too. ;)

awesome finds and love the pics

Thats a beautiful barber dime you pulled out there. The extra reward of finding silver coins is of course that there is hardly any deterioration, in most cases. Keep at it my friend! Happy Hunting!!!! :)

Way to go guys!
Bob,
Very nice looking Barber, and I love that medal. Very cool.
Is your detector also a shovel? ;D
Great post.
Congrats,
MM
