Every day when I drop my kids off at the highschool I drive past some old homes in the "Historic District". One recently caught my eye because it is vacant and has a for sale sign. Now I'm not one for making cold calls to strangers asking for permission to detect on their property but I realized that this would be an opportunity that I might regret. So I called and introduced myself. As I was talking the owner interrupted me and asked if I was Dan's brother. The answer was yes and I was in(my brother use to work for him).
Anyway the home was built in the 1860's but was used from about 1929 to 1980 as a city administrative building.
Surprisingly not a lot of targets. Got some teen date wheat pennies and did manage to get this beautiful 1907 Barber.
Saturday Nate and I hooked up with ZoSo. It had rained a lot Thurs & Friday so conditions were muddy. ZoSo knew the spot well and proceeded to quickly find silver. After a few hours he had five silver and Nate and I none. ZoSo had a dinner engagement and left us. Shortly after ZoSo left with his pocketful of silver Nate and I wandered along the brushline. Nate went further and then back into the woods. I was packing it up when he came out of the woods saying he found a merc and some wheat pennies.
So, pull back out the detector. By the time I had found my first wheat penny Nate had another silver dime. I just kept working at it. I found about 10 wheat pennies and then finally a nice silver sound. Out popped a SLQ.
Dateless of coarse but nice to find Silver.
Nate found another silver rosie and I found a 1947 Washington Quarter. Also found a silver plated religious medal. So it was a good way to end the day.
HH all.
