Got out today with Patriot and our other hunting buddy for what could only be described as a cold, windy and tough hunt. The ground was surprisingly soft in most areas, and we hit a section of promising woods first, only to find it incredibly thick. Our hunting buddy was rewarded with another cannonball, but finds were slim. We then headed to another field we tried a few weeks ago when it was covered in snow and the smaller buttons were easier to pick up. I managed the barely readable one piece Commissariat Staff Corps Button that possibly dates from the 1812 era from what I've read. Also got a speed the plough token, boken jews harp, musket balls and some other odds and ends.

Nice button! Haven't seen that one before.

Digging at the end of the first week in December is a feat on it's own, getting some cool finds makes all that much better. Been a awhile since seeing a plough token posted up.

Good enough to ID means it still counts. I dug a real nice one many years ago.

Getting an ID is the big part, and the fact it's an interesting one I hadn't heard of before makes it cool too. Last several hunts have brought some awesome buttons for me, but I keep missing all the cannonballs!

Yep those buttons don't show up too often that's for sure.
My one and only I found many years ago, yours is one if the few I've seen since then

That's cool, I'm glad to join the club haha!

I dug this one back in 2000 I believe, and it was only IH's I've seen since then. (until now)

By the way.... it sure looks like we will get another shot! Warmer temps. on the way! :headbang:

Nothing wrong with that hunt...well deserved after walked around the woods with all that undergrowth...You and Marcel stole the day with those finds...if that's the end, good way to finish..may get one more shot...

Yup, that's what I was basing my 1812 date from, and it fits with the other finds coming from that site. Lots of buttons and musketballs at that spot so might be some other interesting ones pop out.

Commissariat Staff Corp Button: Niagara Falls Museums

Never seen that one, so I did a little search for a better image, your 1812 makes sense according to the above Museum. Good find, late in the year.

Now that's a nice one! Mine has one little speck of gilt on the crown and the details are worn, it must have been from a heavily worn uniform I'd say.

Sure looks that way, above zero being forecast for almost a week!

It was a good hunt, the only really cold part was when we got out on the field or along that marsh, man that wind was whipping! And those trees were thick, it would have to be a day where I had lots of patience to go back haha. And hey, thats cannonballs, silver or good buttons on every hunt we've done in that area!

That's a great button HH! Awesome to get an id on it

Yes those sites owe us nothing...but expecting the Spring will be just as kind...

I was quite surprised he did get enough of it to ID it...in the field, looked enough see there was something but thought that would be it...
