Concentration?

[The Beep Goes On]

My concentration wanders while detecting. I try to focus and am usually successful, but find it difficult to compare detecting to any other mindful occupation.

I voted "driving a car while evading the police" cuz I'm new to MD'ing and not well thought out in my techniques and approach, but i'm trying very hard.

I voted performing neurosurgery. I always concentrate on keeping my coil low and level and overlapping my sweeps. It's not always easy on the beach. Pretty easy to get distracted, if you know what I mean

I get distracted while beach hunting too and just enjoy watching the gulls and people while I swing away mumbling to myself. Turning your hat sideways while you mumble has mothers calling the kiddies away from you.

I Tune out Everything when I detect.

if I Can't because of
Wind, Or Cold, I go home for the Day.

If Somone tries to Talk to Me I Stop & Talk.

I Never search while someone Follows
because they are a Distraction.
so I Stop & talk till they Move to a distance.

I 'ditto' Sandman's comments above and in the process I'm sure I have missed signals, but then again, who cares when you'll alive and enjoying the beach, the sound of the surf and the other 'attractions'.

It changes for me through out the day some times ill bumble along day dreaming and probably miss alot at other times i'm very concentrated I guess it all depends on my current mood and how I feel I mostly try to stay focused but we all need to day dream a little while we are out there, hell its the dream or thought there might be some lost forgotten treasure out there that brings us all out into the field to start with lol, happy hunting everyone follow your dreams. - RonnieAZ

Pondering the depths. I am always dreaming while detecting but always focused. I hate to swing over things that strike back so am always looking a few feet in front of me. Pondering.lol fun post. I always like voting.

Seems like I find more when I concentrate on what I'm doing and slow myself down.


If I make a really good find, it ruins my concentration and I have to stop. If I keep going after a Really good find I wander all over the place, I don't overlap, I sweep right over and ignore good signals, and I keep thinking about what I just dug.

But it is Very Hard to do,
Unless I Immediatly find another.
Then it has the Reverse Effect.

I put:Performing neurosurgery. I like to tune everthing out and focus on the detector and the ground. I tune out my job,my wife,my kids,mowing the yard,cleaning the pool,rakeing leaves. And unless its raining ive found that if I use some of my gear that I use on my Motor Cycle in cold weather I too can be comfortable and continue to detect. I have battery heated gloves, and battery heated sox. I also have tight fitting hoods to go over my head that are warm and thin enough to hear my headset beep.The rest of the Bod is easy to keep warm with thermals and insulated pants.
when Im detecting I do my best to think of just what is at hand, dont solve problems,ponder the State Of The Union, I just let my self go blank and have no worries and relax from 1 to 8 hours, I leave my phone on mute.
