Since we are allowed to post our Copper pieces here now I thought I would share some that I have that I acquired while putting together my States Collection. There were all gifted to me by a member of Arrowheadology. They include 3 Fish Hooks, 3 Projectile Points, and 1 really nice Awl.

If anyone else has any Copper pieces please share them with us here.

Thanks.

These are the only two copper pieces that I have found in context to the point of being positive about them. If anyone knows what the twisted one is I would sure like to hear it. They were found very close to each other.

That twisted piece could be two Fish Hooks that got entangled and twisted together.

The larger one sure looks like a hook. The twist in the second appears to be intentional. at least in person.

Wow ! What a nice gift. I am glad we get to see the copper tools here. You guys think the copper was pretty strong as a fish hook?

Seems it would be less brittle than bone.

Hi Grim Reaper,
I haven't found any copper artifacts here in west central although I wouldn't be surprised if there was some found. I know float copper has been found in neighboring Clark county as a result of the glaciers. I noticed your Hixton points in the frame. The quarry site is called Silver Mound and is only about ten miles from my home. Almost all of my finds are this material. Didn't mean to change the subject but thought you might be interested.

Thanks,
Sidevalve

Here are a few pieces I have come across.
It definitely does not get much attention on here. It nice when your coin shooting and come across one :).

Sorry. Here is the photo

This is a welcome change of pace if you ask me...and yeah I feel ya TN. I am headed out tomorrow and just chose my location based on this thread.

these are a few of the typical copper bangles we find in NDIMG_3004.webp

So larsen do you have any more pics of your friends copper spear points and such that he found on the manden sights? If not mabye you could post them again here. They were amazing.

Here are a couple of my favorites. This nice little archaic bead that was a pleasure to pin point as deep as it was.
I also love this piece so I thought I would share. Seems as it could have been a adornment of some kind, earring? It is definitely one of a kind.

Glenn

How do you determine the context of pieces that are not in matrix with other artifacts.. I guess I am asking how can you be sure they are not plumbing ..trim..or some other modern debris? I mean that sincerely..I am curious. Can you test the copper content to help determine age?

The recent stuff that we come across which is 400 + years old is ketel metal which is absolutely uniform the thickness of copper used.

The bead for instance, the copper varies in thickness throughout as it is hammered in to shape from float copper or preform copper if they have worked it. The lightning bolt shaped object is not archaic. The bead is. The objects were found in the same vicinity as others found which is in no mans land at the moment. This rules out modern options.

Just sharing.

I was going to say I really like the fish hooks that you found. I waited for a better look from the main comp. First I have seen which has such a shape.
I believe it may have another purpose which the maker knows of.
The shape baffles me...very nice and rare!

Thanks for the info...also I don't belive those to be fish hooks. I was just taking in the responces. Jewlery sounds more reasonable to me. The twisted piece completes a perfect corkscrew. I don't think that just happened naturally.

Is the first piece that resembles a tube, copper? Is it irregular throughout or kettle metal? Hard to see from the photo. Does it connect on the one side?

It was tuff to get good photos. Its very irregular.. it's rolled and overlaps. There were many similar found in that area. Local archaeologists describe them as Spanish conical points. They We're supplied To the local natives To help defeat France in a fight for Florida. France did the same With tribes from another area. As a whole those were smaller and often more crude in shape. At least that's what my studies have told me. I have looked at hair tubes.. I'm definitely no pro at this.
