Correction--Engraved silver button made from seated dime-shocked

I found this today while hunting an old yard. I thought it was a stainless steel rivet and just threw it in with some clad. I cleaned it up and am shocked [amazed] to see that it is made from a seated dime. Needless to say I am pumped.
Have any of the TN button experts ever seen or heard of one like this?

PS--- Upon further examination and comparing some details I think it is made from a seated dime. [1837 to 1891]

Technically, it's an example of "love token" jewelry. Love tokens are real coins which have had one or both surfaces smoothed and re-engraved with names or other words, initials, fancy designs, etc. Your find seems to be a lapel stud made for someone with the initial "D." Love tokens (and jewelry made from them) were especially popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Merf, that is really outstanding. . . I would rather find a half-dime like that than just the half-dime alone.

Excellent find, I have a plain IH penny mounted the same way, but no engraving on it. I have a beautiful Love Token made most likely from a Seated Liberty Quarter. The love tokens are nice finds, your find is a first that I have seen with the combination of an engraving and turning it into a button type.

Regardless of whether or not that was made out of a coin it's a gorgeous piece. Very beautifully made.
