This conch shell adze must have come from one giant snail.

Nice save Gator! That is one of your better shell adzes I would guess. Amazing they survive. Are they soft once exposed? Chalky?

Thanks they're not soft all the way through I mean it would definitely leave a lump if I were to knock someone in the head with it but the exterior will get chalky and start to shed away if not stabilized.
A lot depends on the conditions they've spent their time in

Amazing stuff you turn up! Congrats. There is a big Brazilian conch but for your area, and I only guess, it may have been a mean ol" horse" conch like creature .
We had one when I was a kid with the end cut off to trumpet with. It worked great.

....WOW...big alright...nice find!

That is a really Cool find, GatorBoy! :icon_thumright: Very Nice!

Thank ya

Thanks yeah it's hard to visualize if you're not used to these types of things

The "whole" conch that GB shows looks like it's been opened with a machete, which is an historical method. There are heaps of "modern" conches with that exact same slash all over the keys and islands, it's where the animal attaches inside the shell. The aboriginals just bashed the shell open or cooked it open, but they often bashed it in the same spot to release the animal.
Great, HEAVY find there, GB!

So true.. Thanks TC

Wow- that thing is a trip! Great find- and thanks for showing- and telling... ;) I'm sure I've missed a buncha shell pieces up here, but then again, up here's it a whole 'nother game. Thanks for you cool shell education- again. Yak

Thank you..
