Couple of odd pieces

Here's 3 odd pieces that I'm not sure what they are. The first piece almost looks like some type of effigy? It belonged to my grandpa and he found it while arrowhead hunting. Its made of a blackish material that has some pitting and is not very heavy.
The second two pieces have been worked around the edges--are these preforms of some type? I found the grey one and grandpa found the red one(on different gravel bars).

Cool finds. I like the first piece even though it's natural. However, just like your grandpa, if one of the ancestors saw it they might pick it up too. And if they had T-net a thousand years ago and were into that internet thing, they would probably post it too!

Yeah, its always fun to speculate about what they(indians) did and what they thought of things that occurred naturally--did they wonder how it was made? or talk about the fossils they found? or were they even curious about such things??

Yeah, what did they think when they saw something like that? My boss and his wife just got back from Bandoler, New Mexico, and were telling us about the petrogyphs. I know why they picked up a brush or chisel, or at least I know what they FELT while executing the art. But what did they think? And why is it such an intriguing subject to me?
