Folks,

Since people are getting into the Christmas spirit.

Bing Crosby + David Bowie = Little Drummer Boy.

This isn't a request, but I am listening to "The breaking of the Fellowship." "Lets hope they last the night." ---Gimli

never heard of that one

I'm officially in survival mode from now until Friday afternoon. To quote the great Ernest Hemingway, "The World breaks everything eventually; and afterwards, many are strong at the broken places." Gave everything I had to give today and then more was asked of me...so I gave more. Not quite sure how... My best guess...pain makes me angry. Any empaths out there? "Give me your poor, your suffering, your huddled masses yearning to be free." Good advice for anybody who finds these holiday times trying...just take it one day at time.

Crispin

Ps. I tried to put everything in quotes so I would be accused of plagiarizing. ;)

never heard of that one

On the walls of Helm's Deep. Legolas talking to Gimli about Frodo and Sam waiting for the Urak-Kai to mount there attack. Legolas, "I think about Sam and Frodo." Gimli "Lets hope they last the night." Legolas "And what about their friends?" Gimli "Lets hope they last the night as well."

ahhh, I relate to Legolas ( I don't know why)

Crispin, from many of your posts it seems you get too involved in your patients lives. I always heard that medicos got to the point of viewing it as work and not taking it personally. Not true?

Its not the one patient that ever gets to me. I've learned to invest my emotions in those who want to get better. The problem at this time of year is the sheer volume of people who need Atlas...I'm no Atlas Shrugged. I know many medicos who see it only as "work." I would not want any of them as my doctor. I got lots of medico buddies...the day we stop taking it personally is the day we hang it up. You want a medico who views it as work or you want a medico invested in your life and well being?

Jeff,

Just my observation but our buddy Crispin is an empath......so he gives more of himself than others in his profession who can keep a healthy distance.

It probably makes him a better psychiatrist than most because of it but at a very heavy personal price.

Regards + HH

Bill

You relate to Legolas for many reasons....prepare to be analyzed...

1. Your skill with a bow.
2. Your ability to walk on top of snow without leaving footprints.
3. The ladies love you.
4. You argue most with those you love. Just call me Gimli.
5. And last, but certainly not least, you would stare death in the eye at the side of a friend.

well to be honest, I want them to go 100% when I am there. But I would feel bad if I thought they took it home.

thank you friend, I welcome your analysis. I aspire to be who you see.

It is an honor and a curse to share that part of one. For it to be real one cannot simply "turn it off." Had a long discussion with GIB about the headphones and the waves and the silence of digging rust. I am honored whenever anybody shares their problems with me. To let me inside their walls is truly an honor. It is a curse because that emotion cannot be repressed or suppressed. It must come out of ones subconscious somehow...someway. I am a pacifist by nature...although I won't hesitate to choke somebody. We all share Terra 1.

Crispin,

I'm trying to come up with an appropriate song to fit your mood....this one should do the trick.

Wet Willie - Keep on Smiling.

Point 4 applies foremost to Squiggy...yes, I just replied to my own post.

That's a good one Bill...I think a combo of "One bourbon, one scotch, one beer" and "Lean on Me." Would also be helpful.
