I Will Be Posting Photo's of My Desert Gold Prospecting Trips & Adventures Here

I drive out to the middle of the Arizona Desert my claim at 0500.

I park my truck and set off on foot to the mineral zone.

Passing through the saguaro.

After hiking through the flat for half a mile (can't get any motorized vehicle's closer due to deep ravines). Now preparing to hike up the rocky slope.

I reach the au minerals.

Here's an area I'm digging at, on the 2000 foot tall, hillside.

I make trips back and forth most of the day, with temps soaring up into the triple digits.

This is how I get my au back to my truck.

View attachment 1016617

I load up 5 gal. buckets to a dolly and strap it down and take off hiking.

I haul out large pieces to be pulverized and classified in my shop.

When I'm finished for the day, I head on out back to the home in Phoenix.

Yesterday I hauled out 900 lbs. (with the help of my kids and grandkids).

Now I have something to putter around with for a week or so, before I go out again next weekend.

Very hard task you have done i appreciate you for this!!!

Thanks John for posting this Gold prospecting adventure for us to read and hopefully learn from! It is doubtful that I will ever get out that way but if I do, I will definitely have a new outlook on areas of where to look. Besides, the information that you post may actually come in handy for some areas here back in the East and will at least make me think outside the box (not the two box, lol!!).

Great pics John! With that hike I can understand why you don't run a re-circ system in site. Getting water there would be a MAJOR pain to say the least. Really makes me glad that we can drive in close enough to make hauling water worth the effort at our claim. Keep us posted on how the processing turns out.

That choya cactus is so cuddly looking makes ya wanna hug it like a teddy bear don't it ;) Looking at your area is making me home sick for the desert again. Its so nice to hunt there in the summer even with the heat. I wish ya luck with your haul  and thanks for the adventure.

Not called jumping cactus for nothing ;) Had to dig out the pliers more than once myself. I laugh now but I cried then ;)
Is your recovery very good with the dry pan? I imagine you have to bring a dolly pot up with ya or do you just beat it up in the pan?

i cant really understand the cactus there. i will say i once leaned my elbow on a small counter top cactus while paying my bill at a Chinese restaurant. i was pulling hair like needles out of my elbow for days until someone recommended using duct tape which wound up working amazingly.

For the Cholla cactus we always carry, in easy reach, two items - a wide tooth comb to get the cactus balls off and a pair of needle nose pliers to pull out the needles that are always left behind. We never leave home without them.

The duct tape does wonders too but without the comb and pliers trick you will kill yourself trying to tear off a piece of tape.

John_Arizona I previously posted that you should say no more but that was out of a sense of security for your part. As it seems that you have that part handled I gladly read and view all info and pictures that you post. Thanks for sharing.

We use mothballs here in the East for getting rid of snakes in the walls or crawl space. However, it works best in enclosed spaces, so I don't know if it would have the same results in the wide open outdoors.

John, I reprocessed those pics for you, and was able
to reduce the exposure and bring out the colors better.

It's tough not to get an overexposure in that bright sunlight
with most compact digital cameras or Iphones, but if the camera
has some settings you can control you can reduce the exposures
a bit. If your able, set the ISO to 100 (or lower if it's an option),
and hopefully the camera will auto-adjust shutter speed accordingly.

If that's not possible, just send 'em to me if ya want and I can fix 'em
up before you post 'em.

John knows his stuff. Its funny, I wear the same hat and clothes when I am out. The dolly with a bucket strapped to it is a great idea. I cant wait to try it. I work much in the same way. I like things simple. Show me the gold john, I cant wait. I might have some of my own soon.

Absolutely beautiful samples John...:occasion14:

When I brought out the natural colors in the pics I was
surprised to see what looks like purple gemstones. Are
they crystals?
