Detecting in central new york?

Hey guys is there anybody in the central New York area that's metal detecting yet? If so, how do you manage to get through the frozen ground? I want to detect and found a very good signal in my backyard but can't because it's frozen haha thanks again!

Go to the woods most are frozen 2" and then it`s soft....rotting layers of leaves make it that way...i`m still hunting .

You need to get a permit that allows you to hunt in public parks.. I'm pretty sure as other people said on here you would need to get the permit from Onondaga park.

Haha alright well I don't really have any woods I have woods but I already hunted there and has just iron all over the place, and I tried to make a hole for a target but it's like really frozen and doesn't want me to be able to get to my target! Sadly
