That show Diggers seems set up. They always seem to find the honey...

Wow! That was a GREAT story!

Diggers still suks. :hello:

Thanks, mate! Haha! Hey, to each his own :)

The thing that bugs me the most about Diggers, if I'm honest, isn't the casting, but rather, the fact that they are let in places that we can't go solely because it's a TV show. Yes, I am jealous of that. Archie's and big 'gubment' have cordoned off so many great places for no real reason and you need $$$ or a big name behind ya to gain access. I'm not mad at the cast, I'm frustrated with red tape. If many of these sites were really so important to history or a group of people, why not dig up the artifacts to put on display? Rather, they'd rather leave them in the ground to slowly decay back to the earth from whence they were made. Truly, it makes no sense. A logical, properly functioning brain can deduce this. We can help, you know? I am not interested in this hobby because I want to find things to sell (sure, we find things that do or could sell). I do it for the fun of finding something that's not been touched, seen for a long time. The thrill of pulling an object from the ground is indescribable. I believe I speak for all of us when I say this. I'm quite certain that a mutually beneficial deal could be struck at a majority of locations. Unfortunately, the powers that be do not see it this way. I'm good with an archie following me around dropping flags at every hit location, fine by me. Annoying, but if we want to hunt some of these sites, we have to give a little too. If I can be the one to unearth the items while someone else is roping off, gridding-up the site, and sketching it up...cool. Okay /dreaming :tongue3:

Sorry for flame posting on this thread. I usually discourage that, however, I felt like responding. I completely understand your sentiment. I do. I've wondered, on occasion, as well. I don't believe that it is staged or setup at all, though. Knowing what I do of the production process of a few TV shows and knowing some of the cast of said shows (I don't know anyone from this show, though), I can say that there's usually days and days of shooting (often requiring the cast to dress in the exact same ensembles) to get "the shots" for the episode. Often, there are also several locations on the filming location roster that may or may not be shown (done in case evidence, or, in this case, relics) isn't found. The backup plan, as-it-were. I can't say for certain, but being from within a few miles of two of the places they filmed for the 'Bleeding Kansas' episode, I believe they probably did, or, at very least, planned on filming at a few other locations in the area. For instance, Lawrence, KS. Lawrence was the center of 'Bleeding Kansas' history and there were many raids and campsites all around there and present-day Clinton Lake. Sure, the almost unheard of battle of Black Jack sounds cool, but in that area, 9 out of 10 people have never heard of the site or battle. Most viewers probably haven't heard of it either. My thoughts are they probably film a few other digs if they question the possibility of cool finds being dug up... just in case. Make sense? Again, these are just my thoughts from personal experience.

What the Gubment doesn't know....ahh never-mind, the NSA is probably tracking us now...lol

The gold coin was a total fluke, they had a very small area that they had to go over before the home owners paved it over so they dug and detected the piles. They also found seated there and a large cent. They got to keep the gold.

I'm glad they get to keep some of the stuff they find! I cant imagine being able to hunt such amazing sites and have to turn everything over to someone else! I enjoy the show and their antics don't bother me a bit! I see them as a couple of good friends that just love life and their hobby and are having a damnedest good time together while getting to hunt some of the best hunting grounds this country has to offer, more power to them! I don't understand all the negativity expressed by some but they're entitled to their opinion's just as KG & RM are entitled to have a good time enjoying their hobby.

I'm glad you chimed in Montanagold, I'm sure you've had plenty of fun hunting with those guys. Life don't need to be deaf serious all the time! We all need to get out and just have good fun times with good friends and be able to enjoy life more often. I'd have to say they're pretty lucky guys. HH & GL

Well said, McClod. I'm totally cool with others voicing their personal feelings about the show, but judging someone on a personal level based on a TV show is dangerous ground to tread on. You can't know a person or judge their character because you watched them on TV. Editing modifies someone, their actions, and even words to fit a mold that an executive has created to inflate ratings for an audience that they've never met. I can jump around in front of a camera, tell a friend he's an idiot, laugh with him about what was just said, dig a hole, cast a line in the water, drive a car, and drink a beer after. The editor can then make me drink a beer, show me driving driving, digging a hole (presumably drunk), call someone a douche, skip the laughing with my buddy about it part, and then finish by fishing. What would you think I had done had you not known the real story and context? Dug a hole after drinking, committed DUI/DWI, and leaving you with the thought I planned on burying someone? Ahhhh, the power of perception and editing.

Just sayin'. Devil's advocate and all :)

Nicely said, & that said I'd like to hunt with those guys one day

deodra, I think you hit the nail on the head with JEALOUSY!

Wow! That was a GREAT story! Diggers still suks. :hello:
He gave good reasons for why it doesn't suk...what are your reasons for why it suks? There are tons of things that people love and I cant stand, so if you don't like it , you don't like it...just wondering what you hate about it.

Do you realize how good the sites are that they get to hunt?...what they find doesn't seem outrageous to me at all.

Just my two cents, if y'all don't mind. I am from Gardner, KS and moved down to Houston last July. I grew up metal detecting with my Papa, Gary Winters, Sr. (now deceased). He used to get so excited when he found just about anything. He would laugh, crack a big smile, and shake his hands excitedly. This was a man who had found rings, coins, and other rather valuable (monetarily and historically) items. Now, when I saw this as a kid, it, in turn, made me really excited and spurred my interest in the hobby. As an adult, I found that part of his excitement was an act, in a way. He did it for me! Papa wanted me to see how much fun it was to get out and enjoy detecting. Granted, he was indeed delighted with any find. We used to make up stories or surmise what an item was used for, who owned it, why it was significant... This brings me to my point. Yes, the guys on Diggers act crazy more often than not. Do I think it is over-the-top? Yup! Does it bother me? Sometimes. Do I believe they love what they do? Certainly. Am I jealous that they get paid to do what they love? Sadly, I am. I have a good friend that's on one of the top-rated shows on SciFi (yes, I still call it SciFi as 'SyFy' is stupid) and have seen first-hand how editing can change the entire scene, story, or episode. Heck, it can change a person's whole persona...seemingly. Well, I have to believe that the magic of editing has a lot to do with the antics on Diggers. Sure, the show wouldn't have lasted a few episodes if they followed and aired what really happens when one is out digging. I would judge this show more a docu-drama as opposed to anything else. I enjoy it, I have some gripes, but I have gripes with pretty much anything-- I'm human. The Bleeding KS episode really rubbed me the wrong way being that I lived five (5) minutes south of Olathe since about 1994 and had repeatedly tried getting into Mahaffie to detect and was always denied-- even with people on the "inside." It was against the rules. Black Jack is pretty well unknown-- even to Kansans. Heck, they were about to destroy most of that site a few years back and it took massive efforts to secure the funding to save that land. The parking lot is in shambles and the monument in the front by the derelict road is in ruins and can barely be read. I tried getting in there too and was turned away. They stated that it was a historic site and they would allow no-one in to detect or relic hunt. They would not even allow anyone to walk around the site. There is no permanent staff and has virtually no funding. Interesting. That being said, I think that Diggers is on the right track and, like any show, what you see is not necessarily the way it went down. So, rather than really believing what you see, you may want to keep in mind my experiences as a child. They may just be doing what my Papa did: making it fun for themselves and others as well as trying to inspire another generation of hunters lest we lose the youngsters to mobile phones and TV's. Or, welcome to the editing process. Thanks for reading my novel and have a great day!
You make a lot of sense.

Dig Wars is the better show...Diggers should be an ad for birth control!

:) I'm not proud of it, but yeah, I'm a wee jealous of them. That doesn't mean they are bad guys.

You make a lot of sense.

Thank you. I just figured it was time to share my take on it.

Here is a interview with KG and RM for those who haven't seen it. They say they put in 90 hours a week, that's a long day or 2.
I just watched this video...wow...anyone that hates these guys need to watch this.

I can't watch it here at work, but I will take a look later. Those who work hard may succeed. Those who don't shouldn't.

You get what you put in and people get what they deserve...Kid Rock.

Come on LD, you already know why I don't like it. I can't stand the two stars of the show because they act like eight-year-olds on camera, and give the impression we ALL act just like them. I dislike their made up lingo, and their pension for labeling everything they dig up as "historic" or valuable. I found the two shows I watched annoying rather than entertaining, and I don't think they really changed anything this season from what I've heard. I appreciate the fact that you like the show. Our tastes differ, that's all. I think it suks, you like it - that's cool. I hate liver, just won't eat it but, the wife loves it - go figure!

Lastly, isn't it a shame that the two guys can't act like NORMAL guys on the show, the way they act in this Garrett video? I would watch the show if they did.
