Went hunting to the smaller flood plain park today for a couple hours. I set my Minelab Explorer XS up for ferrous targets, running Iron mask, 7 1/2 inch coil, everything else set for max. I went to an area of the park that is littered with deep rusty bottlecaps, some have the lead foil in them, I worked a very slow pattern, when all of a sudden.....blaaaah, blaaaah, blaaaah, BLING! A little teeny tiny good sound amongst the iron sounds ( gotta love this machine). I actually cut a horseshoe shaped plug, flipped it over, loosened up the dirt a little in the hole. Saw RUST everywhere, along with some foils. Took a handful of how you say on here, DOIT? Started sorting through 7 rusty caps, still nothing. Checked the hole with my trusty Sun Ray probe, yup, it was still in there. Loosened up some more Doit, pulled a couple more bottle caps out, then I saw her; A very dirty old lady hiding under some caps about 9 inches deep. The only cleaning I did was to rinse her off under running water. She is absolutely gorgeous . The cleaned up pic shows the only blemish, which is her ring (of rust) where a cap was stuffed next to her backside..........NGE

nice finds, sick looking horse lol.

nice job! That will be a nice story when you tell other treasure hunters on your outings!

Nice find

One question though; Lady?? ???

people have been calling the "winged Liberty Dimes" ladies for a very lonnnnng time. I really think Mercury was actually a male, but the person depicted on the dime is actually Lady Liberty........NGE

Nice Merc!I bought a used XS a month ago,got a X-8 coil and x-1 probe and I love this machine,I have used a M6 until now and have found 75 silver coins YTD with it.In the short time I've used the XS,I've 10 more silver coins and 2 silver rings with it.Ricardo_NY1 gave me a lesson with it and put in his settings and I'm finding good stuff from my first hunt.Even as a novice I know I will do better with machine, finding targets mixed with trash and deep.HH

That's a sweet coin, congrats!

I've been finding my silver at Lower Huron Metro Park, the park your hunting, might that be Hines. I'll probably never hit Hines, I here they ask 15 bucks for a permit, Metro gives 'em
out free. I lived in Plymouth for about 5 years, but that was before I started detecting.

Good luck,
HH.

Congrats on the Merc! HH, Mike

Yes, BandB1 I do hunt Hines alot. Whoever told you that they charge 15 bucks a year for the permit, did not want you hunting Hines. The permit is only 5 bucks for a year, you get 'em at Nankin Mills Nature center on Ann Arbor Trail at Farmington Road. Once you have registered the first time, you can renew each year by mail..........NGE

The smaller floodplain park I found this Lady, is called Lola Valley Park in Redford Township Michigan, my hometown. I have been hunting this park for the last 30 years. And while I agree that the good stuff is still there, The hits are getting far and few between, and what you do get is either super deep ( 9 to 20 inches deep ) dug a 1923 Peace dollar there about 15 years ago at a measured depth of 19 inches, I was using my Fisher 1266-X, with a Hot Head coil on it. My hole was only about 10 inches in diameter, was in the hole up to my elbow. The club that I joined back in 1975, has a 'nickname' for me. They call me " Lola Larry". ;D. Because anytime someone goes huntin' at that park and goes home empty handed, They complain that, that is because it is "Lola Larry's" park!. The stuff I am getting now, is mixed in with rusty beer caps and can slaw ( gridded, 10ft. X 10ft. ) I have nothing but time on my hands ::) :tongue3:.....NGE

Always love to find the Mercs...Think they are one of the best looking coins the US minted.
