I went back out to the historic Native American site today that I've been metal detecting after finding the tomahawk or trade axe yesterday. (I posted the axe on "Today's Finds yesterday) Today, was shotgun shell and beer can day and I wasn't really finding too much of what I was looking for. Close to the end of the hunt, I was walking along in the field and spotted what I thought at first was a 4" PVC pipe cap laying about 75 feet away. Thinking that it was odd for a pipe cap to be out in the middle of no where, I walked closer and found this discoal laying out in the sun in plain view. I'm sure glad that I checked it! It's going to clean up well and has itself a new home in the display cabinet.

That chunky stone is great. Imagine all the spears that were thrown at that as it rolled across the ground.White is a good moving target. Great piece of prehistoric history I have found that exact same style of trade axe up here.
I think you have a banner site so am sending a vote your way. Interesting piece for people to learn about.

Thank you for the vote. It’s one of my better hard stone finds in a long while.

As much as I don't like you I have to give that rock a banner vote!:laughing7:

That is a monster discoidal. Great to see a artifact up on the banner.

That's a beauty, and is still on my bucket list. What county did that come from, if you don't mind my asking? I do a lot of hunting in Lee and Dougherty.

What a STELLAR find!!!!!!! DEF not something you find everyday... CONGRATZ....

Excellent find.
Even someone as uninitiated as myself can see the significance of your find.

But because of my inexperience can you shed some light on what a "discoil' was or used for?
Thanks in advance.

It is a game stone. - Google Native American Chunky Stone game.

can you give us some closer pix of some of the aspects of the stone? something that stands out.

Man, sweet finds, keep them coming! Nice looking farm field to hunt in too!

That's awesome. There are so many good places to hunt in Lee County. Last year, I found a perfect oblong bola/egg stone out of similar white quartz as yours. I would love to know how long it took an individual to make it, considering the hardness and what they had to work with. Days of just pecking and rubbing two rocks together. I guess that is why the hardstone stuff is so hard to come by. Good luck with your hunts!

Amazing .

Crazy ..,I just got on and saw that piece and thought "What is that?" " If Native American ? I hope dude in SW GA found that "

I think what helps us vs. Cobb County is no doubt all the agriculture we have going on where most of Cobb is built over.(I assume) But, I'm sure we cannot compete with y'all on Civil War relics. We got a few but, they are brought home items mostly.
