Does the fact of a product such as a Metal Detector being made in the USA effect your decision on a purchase? It seems like less people even consider this anymore when buying anything. I dont want to start an argument here, but i blame this largely for the shape our economy is in right now and i still take pride in owning american made products!

Hay, Detectors is one of the last areas where you have a good American choice. It is almost impossible to buy some items still made in America. Frank...

I think all First Texas machines Fisher,Teknetics and.... Bounty Hunter but 1, are made in the United States.

I buy based on the performance of the detector and the quality of the company.

Yes, it matters to me.

I buy everything I can that has been made in the USA.

My Tesoro and all my Garrett stuff, made here in the USA.

Kellyco gave me a free machine once. It was made in China. Some Trident POS. I went to sell it on CL but when the buyer picked it up to look at it, the coil bolt housing broke and fell off the coil. The battery was the only thing worth a crap on that machine and it lasted for almost two weeks in a desk clock.

The last gun I purchased, a Ruger, proudly made in AZ.

Go AMERICA!

I am going to assume by your response that you might be a Minelab user???

As I recall, he is....

And, so am I.

But the thing is, when you see a real expansion of technology, and you see excellence - it does merit serious interest....

My 9 other detectors were American made.

So far so good with my Minelab as well. I do prefer to buy American made products though but good luck finding many. I once bought an American flag for the Fourth of July made in China, hell of a note .

Why is technology so heavy?

Garrett, Fisher, Teknetics, Whites, Tesoro, Bounty Hunter.....plenty of American options....

Is this supposed to be an insult against me? I do have Minelabs, but I also have Whites and Tesoro. Like I said before, I buy based on the abilities of the machine for the job I want it to do. I am not biased to ANY machine because of the label on it.

NO it is not.....i know that minelab makes some great machines.....just wondering how many people even care where a machine is made. I do think that minelab should be able to make some of their high end machines lighter and more balanced like the T2 and f75. The ATPro has the same problem but is not nearly the price as the others. And thank you for your purchase of the American made machines you own....

You have to admire these companies. Free Enterprise is what makes America Great ! Tesoro is a tiny family own company with around 25 employees who builds some of the greatest detectors through history of the hobby. Garrett too. Look at their heritage and history. I have always been someone who has tried to buy local. Yes , I would prefer a machine built here if it can compete with the other contenders

It's often the batteries. Newer technology = fast processors so that more data can be interpreted to give more info to the user. That speed requires more electricity which requires bigger batteries to maintain a desirable use time. The really amazing thing is how much battery technology has been improving, and getting lighter in weight as well.

And when a tiny company like tesoro can put a LIFETIME WARRANTY on their product, you know you are buying quality. For me you cant put a price on the words ......Made in USA!

You have to look at what those words REALLY mean for each company! Some companies mean that is 100% US in every aspect. Some only mean that it's final assembly and boxing happens in the US, while all the components are built in foreign countries.

Yes, I will agree with that......it applies for vehicles aswell. But even if only assembled and boxed here, it still equals more american jobs being supported.

Yes thats what I was going to say, most the parts are made in other countries. There are so many things made in other countries its getting to be nothing too made in america. We can bring up the issue like for metal detectors but we have literally hundreds of things in our house that are made in other countries and dont even know it. So we cant really just pick out one little item and say buy american. US made cars are filled with parts from other countries. Not saying its right just saying its so.

Then I will tell you a bigger issue and that is these big companies are hiring people from other countries to displace american workers. Especially in engineering. Some countries have like over 1 billion people and these us companies are picking up the top people from those huge countries and paying them less wages. They are nit picking degrees now, if you dont have a EE or a ME degree you just wasted 60K money as they are now making kids who have EET and MET degrees , pushing them down to technician jobs. This is making kids with two year associates degrees have no where to work as they cant get the technician jobs that are being filled with 4 year degree engineers.

So buy american was the issue now its hire Americans in our own country. Coporate America thanks alot.

To answer your question "does it matter to any one anymore" .. I really don;t think most care were there product is made any more … If they like it they buy it no matter were it was made .. They could care less about jobs in the USA as long as they have a job.. That means they just care about themselves ...
