Does this matter to anyone anymore?

I don't understand this thread.
Capitalism is the American dream.
You should all be happy when your products are made in China.
It means more profit for the shareholders!
Funny, while I was typing this out, I got a (30 year old) song from Bob Dylan in my head.........

Well, my shoes, they comes from Singapore
My flashlight's from Taiwan
My tablecloth's from Malayisia
My belt buckle's from the Amazon
You know, this shirt I wear comes from the Philippines
And the car I drive is a Chevrolet
It was put together down in Argentina
By a guy making thirty cents a day.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the USA
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, this silk dress is from Hong Kong
And the pearls are from Japan
Well, the dog collar's from India
And the flower pot's from Pakistan
All the furniture it said "Made in Brazil"
Where a woman, she slaved for sure
Bringing home thirty cents a day to a family of twelve
You know, that's a lot of money to her.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the USA
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, you know, lots of people complaining that there is no work
I say, "Why you say that for
When nothing you got is US made ?"
They don't make nothing here no more
You know, capitalism is above the law
It say, "it don't count 'less it sells"
When it costs too much to build it at home
You just build it cheaper someplace else.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the USA
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.
Well, the job that you used to have
They gave it to somebody down in El Salvador
The unions are big business, friend
And they're going out like a dinosaur
They used to grow food in Kansas
Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw
I can see the day coming when even your home garden
Is gonna be against the law.

Well, it's sundown on the union.........

Cheers,
Dave.

The real reason so little is made in the US anymore is our own gov't regulations. It is cheaper for Tyson to freeze it chickens, ship to China by boat to be processed and then sent back here to sell in our stores than it is for them to process the animals themselves. The EPA demands billions be spent to build an "authorized" plant to manufacture or process anything, so the work is contracted to other countries. Now I love have a clean, beautiful, country but we are about to become one giant national park: beautiful to look at but that's all you can do is look.

Iand you should have a good time with customer service on getting that Korean detector fixed if it ever breaks!

No, I'd just buy a new one which is exactly what I have to do with my 2009 Explorer SE if it has a circuit board problem... which I suspect it does. Thank you Minelab for helping me make the case to buy my Korean detector.

Garrett seem to be the only American company keeping up with the modern technology, when I first started detecting it was Tesoro and Whites that were the big two over here, now it's Minelab and XP.

What kills our companies is greed and it's like a two edge sword. Bad CEO's, or whatever they call themselves now, suck the profits up from the top and get big salaries and stock plans, and retirement packages. Down on the lower level, the unions demand more and more to justify there existence therefor sucking the profits from the base. Then the company goes off shore piece by piece. As then as the price off shore, the operation is shifted to another shore. It's like evolution in reverse. Then you have the company/country killers justificateing there existance. That would be EPA, OSHA, etc. Just my opinion based on past viewing. Frank...

Look like we are running bare bones!

I like my products and metal detectors to be made in the USA. I have owned and used Whites for over 20 years. As for the workers, I worked at a major university for 38 years as a Public Safety Officer. On the weekends while checking the computer labs, over 95 percent of the users were the students from other countries. The students from the states were, for some if not most, were sleeping off a wild Friday night. The students from the foreign countrys were under pressure to excel in their studies. In some countries, the government funded the students. If that student was under achieving, it was not uncommon for that student to commit suicide rather than disgrace his parents and government, and I have been on such calls and also attempts. If our students had such comitment, as far as the studying, I think our economy would take a big jump ahead. We just need to wake up.
Exactly, thank you! Education is the key! Were so far behind most modern countries!

Would guess the most older folks, (over 40) care a lot where things are made.. I will pay more if I have a choice between US made and china crap.. no thought involved. However, it is a rare instance to have a choice. Today I was out looking for a new washing machine as my US made GE of 5 years is junk.. Lots of big bright Red white and blue made in America stickers on the appliance now.. only last 5 years but that is our way here in the disposable USA!

It's not that we are a "disposable" society any more than 100 years ago. The difference is that today so much of items are NOT repairable. You can't repair a micro circuit in your electronics, and housing are often RF-welded. In order to prevent our items from weighing more than we do. they are designed with engineered plastics. The end result is that when something breaks, there is no choice but to trash it.

My personal opinion is that many electronics are intentionally made to fail after a certain time frame. They can't sell everyone an iphone10 if all our iphone5's are still chugging along.

That is a given! But when the manufacture uses cast aluminum in a part that will come in contact with detergent and water, it is going to fail. Then even though that part is bolted on to something else that is made of stainless and plastic, don't offer the part that will fail for sales and only offer the complete assembly at the cost of the complete unit... that is planed.
Ever price a LCD panel for a $500 TV.. the replacement is $900.. makes sense right? Manufacture make stuff cheap, cause we all expect everything to be cheap! unfortunately cheap don't last.

And when a tiny company like tesoro can put a LIFETIME WARRANTY on their product, you know you are buying quality. For me you cant put a price on the words ......Made in USA!

I bought a BH 840 in 1980. It had a lifetime warranty. I still a copy of the warranty, and my purchase receipt. Not saying anything about Tesoro; but things can and do happen. I can't really fault BH (original company); but I'm still with a detector that doesn't work!!

made in america

Well BMW-Nissan-Toyota-Subaru all made in America at our factories don't really care for that but then its our people that work their.jmho. rwdmo

You might ask,"Does the country matter to you any more?" Frank...

I used to use garrett 90% of the time. When they dropped the ball on the issue I had with them, I decided to go with another company. I am not sure what I plan on going with though. I am thinking minelab. I have always wanted to try a multi frequency machine.

In the detecting market, I dont look at where a machine is made if it comes from one of the major companies. If a machine is quality, people will buy it.

Example. The Garrett 1350, 1500, 2500 and all machines of that particular style. Very solid construction. Not everyones cup of tea performance wise, but the machines are solid.

Now take the AT PRO. Performance is killer. Build quality and innards, suspect. I know there is a cult like following for the AT PRO and the Pro pointer, but really do some digging online and you will see many many people have had issues with both. Especially the Pro Pointer.

I think companies should make a low frequency machine specifically for coinshooting. It seems Fisher did that and those machines are still being gobbled up as soon as they hit a for sale forum.

Without getting political, American Made is dead and gone. Has been for years.

You will see more problems with the ATP and pro-pointer just because of the shear number of them out there. No other pinpointer even compares to the Garrett.....not even close!

Proud to NOT be Atheist!

I have used the Minelab pinpointer, Detector Pro and the Whites pin pointer and all of them out perform the Garrett. Don't get mad, just my opinion.

You got it...weve been regulated right out of business.

At least we can still breath the air (in most places) and still drink the water (in most places) and still fish the water ways (in most place),unlike in some parts of China. Remember the operative word in JiEs post "CHEAPER" not BETTER! CRAP goods from China driving down the cost of goods to consumers and creating a society that expects everything to be inexpensive and as such, can not be made to last! Did I mention the use of slave labor and sweat shops.. Lack of unions and human rights.. God bless Regulations and the US of A .. don't blame uncle Sam, blame GREED!

I'll be honest - it doesn't matter a whit to me where a machine is made. I buy based on value; capability divided by cost.
