Does this matter to anyone anymore?

As someone already posted, many "foreign cars" are made here in the US by Americans and many so called "American products" of all types use parts and components they buy/import from foreign sources--so what is American these days? Like it or not, we are a global economy and I can't really keep track of what is really 100% American and what is foreign! :dontknow: Given that current reality, I buy what works best for me and preferably from small businesses located here in the good old U S of A.

I'm not 100% sure on what brands of detectors are american and what aren't so I'll use other products in my thoughts of the subject. If we compare TVs America and japan I'd say japan would be the better choice in TVs American brand tvs are junk compared to Samsung ect. Also interesting fact do you know how much a iPad would cost if it was made in the states? 6,000 dollars it is better that certain things are made in foreign places. With most chip designers and molding companies located in japan their labor is cheaper if I recall. It also keeps consumer price down.

To answer your question "does it matter to any one anymore" .. I really don;t think most care were there product is made any more … If they like it they buy it no matter were it was made .. They could care less about jobs in the USA as long as they have a job.. That means they just care about themselves ...

Correct Keppy and Huntingdog. People shop at Wal-Mart and most of their products are made outside of US. But what is worse is corporations laying off Americans and hiring foreigners because they can pay them less. Then they cry when their employees want to form a union so they can get higher pay and benefits. But the imported employees only want to live the American dream. Its greed pure and simple.

What bothers me more is the loss of our Rights from our own government. Sorry to highjack the thread guys and
I should be shot if you still own a gun. shooting-guns.gif

HI, al This is Sanddigger , about Metal Detectors , I Have a ( Whites Metal Detector its The beach Hunter 300 and
it is made in The Good Old U SA.

Times have changed, Quality has changed! Things use to be engineered to last a long time. I have a refrigerator that is 25 years old that came from my moms house when she passed. It works find. I also have a ref. that is 2 years old that replaced one that was 5 years old. Things are now designed to last shorter periods of time. Quality is down all around so people are now thinking why should I pay more for an American made product.
Another thing is repairs. Things are not designed to be repaired. I, in my early years, had a TV repair business. I could go in and repair a TV with the replacement of maybe a tube and a capacitor and it would last for years before I would see it again. Current TV sets are sealed at the factory. you basically can't repair them. When you send an electronic device back for repairs, more than likely it will be replaced, or the guts will. Look at all the Pro Pointers that were sent back. Most probably wound up in the dumpster and were replaced. That's probably why the cost is so high. This might be changing. The new Whites pin pointer is advertising that even the case can be replaced. Yep, it is turning into a through away world for the most part. Time will tell. Frank...CASA GRANDE 1904.webpSome things last longer than others!

The white collar lost all its pride and replaced the pride with dollar signs, there is no longer any desire to build a product that lasts a lifetime, see the dollar sign thing, build it to last a year, and we get more dollar signs, with the long gone pride sign, it was charge a fair price for something you could pass down to your kids, you would think that would still work with the population explosion, more buyers...nope, no pride more money for an inferior product that people have to buy over and over again..
This tablet I am typing this on ( nexus 7 ) the battery is toast, a full charge lasts about an hour now, the case cannot be opened in any visable way, and if I did it would void my warranty..more damn greedy dollar signs.

Yes I try and buy only american made stuff, but even the most american companies products are made from over seas parts, assembled and made in america are two different beasts, heck even Harleys are made with foreign parts now..
More dollar signs.
Take the beloved hostess twinkies awhile back the unions wanted better pay, so what did the white collar dollar signs do ? They put the company out of business, hence firing everybody that made a fair wage, then pulled a trick a year later and opened back up with all new min wage workers...damn dollar signs.

Got something truly made in america ? Lemme know, I'll buy it even if I do not need it.

Mike

I really like dollar signs, especially when they're in my bank account. They mean that I and my family have options in life.

There still exists a market for goods that last. Look at Lesche shovels, for instance - two weeks ago, I spent $80 on a miniature shovel, when I could have gone down to Home Depot and gotten a similar sized one that would have worked for $15. I bought the Lesche because I know that I enjoy using quality tools.

Electronics are something of a special case. There is no market for a tablet that is serviceable and will last 20 years. By the time the batteries start to become an issue, the device is well beyond its "end of life", the manufacturer is no longer supporting it, and it's past time to upgrade.

Hostess went bankrupt as a result of the union's demands. They didn't "open back up", they sold the company and someone opened a new business under the same name. If there are workers that are happy to take a job at a lower pay, then that is the value of labor in that market.

It's not a matter of "fair" - this is how prices are set. Market tend toward equilibrium between supply and demand. It's as much a law as gravity.

At least we can still breath the air (in most places) and still drink the water (in most places) and still fish the water ways (in most place),unlike in some parts of China. Remember the operative word in JiEs post "CHEAPER" not BETTER! CRAP goods from China driving down the cost of goods to consumers and creating a society that expects everything to be inexpensive and as such, can not be made to last! Did I mention the use of slave labor and sweat shops.. Lack of unions and human rights.. God bless Regulations and the US of A .. don't blame uncle Sam, blame GREED!
That's like saying "Aww, that guy aint that bad, he only slaps his wife and some guys punch theirs."...don't say it could worse...do something about it.

Yeah but the tablet is only 6 months old, and not something I can afford to replace.
Dollar signs may make for an easier life, but you can get by with a limited supply just fine.

Mike

You can repair tablets/phones if you know what you're doing they sell factory batteries on amazon/eBay too.

It's greed that is ruining it now! When I took my business courses in college back in the 60's, the prof stated that a fair profit was cost plus 100%. Wholesale was cost plus 100% and retail was cost plus 100%. this systems was in effect for a long time, then greed set in. Now it seams to be as much as you can get.
Supply and demand mean nothing today. Look at oil. There is plenty of it and it cost $5 a bbl to produce it, but it is at $96 a bbl today. The middle class is being milked down to poverty and the big boys are placing BILLION dollar prizes on ball scores. Greed is the name of the game untill the cow goes dry. Frank...

No reason for gas to cost what it does...the economy went down when gas went up.

well here in pa they added another tax :( this time they taxed the Fuel Co.
saying they won't pass it on the the public.

Guess what.... gas went up about .10 a Gallon :(

They can't tell me they don't know how the Fuel companies work.
by 2017 we will be paying at least .58 a gallon in taxes
& that's only if nobody raises it more in between now & then.

just a short few years ago when gas reached $3.00 they were promising to lower taxes to help out now it's pushing $4 & they are adding :(

I wish I could buy Counterfeit gas from China 8-)
filled with plenty of Lead, for global warming & better power & mileage :headbang:

That's dumb here in ks gas is usually 3.15 but I live not even a mile from Oklahoma and gas is generally 20 cents cheaper but the crazy thing is if I go about 50miles into Oklahoma its 50 cents cheaper! Gas prices affect a lot more then just the $$$$ you put in you're tank. Shipping prices go up, stuff in stores go up. Taxi service goes up. Basically any service that requires fuel goes up.

Regular here is now about $3.31 a gallon unless your by Disney then it is over $4.00 for reg.

American by birth, Patriot by choice.

I would rather die standing on my two feet defending our Constitution than live a lifetime on my knees......

yep. Even the cost of delivering the gas to the gas station :(

gas is $3.49 a Gallon here at Redners. (cheapest around, i'm aware of.)
If I have a hundred Dollars worth of groceries by the time I need gas, I can get .10 off per gallon, But you pay for it in the groceries prices so win / win for them :(

Hay, the next car I am getting will get at least 40MPH. Back in 1960 I bought a new Renault 4CV. It was a tad shorter than a VW beetle, It was a 4 door sedan with a rear engine and rear shaped like a beetle, but had a bonnet ' hood' like a conventional car. It had a for cylinder 'wet sleeve' , OHV engine. It could corner like a bear and got a true 40 MPG. I put 200,000 miles on it, then totally rebuilt the engine my self. Like a dummy, I sold it after another 75,000 miles. Wish I still had it. Frank...

58 Isetta 300-BMW.webpWell, It was a bit bigger than this and had 3 more doors.
This is an Isetta 300 by BMW.

I do like and prefer made in the USA. I am old enough to have owned many vehicles. And I have!!! Every one of them have been Ford's. They still are! It is very difficult to buy made in USA only any longer.....IMPOSSIBLE!!! We manufacture very little any longer. As far as detectors go..I own two Tesoro's and three Minelab's. Two American made....three foreign. The Minelabs are phenomenal detectors and work!!! When I buy another detector however...it will be an American made machine most likely. Probably a Fisher unit. I hate Chinese crap!!!!!!!!................TR

Our state of Mass wasn't even going to be sneaky about a gas tax, they were going to out right pass a gas tax tied to the rate of inflation...so it would never go down!!! I believe they tabled the vote maybe for a time when fewer of us are watching them! Greed abounds!
