Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter Platinum
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Went out today for my 3rd time with my Platinum and found many coins but no silver.lol. I hit a local park that has been around since the 20's. But no luck, maybe a better detector? Better depth? Now I have a question for you silver finders. I know all detectors are different, but in general, when you get a silver or gold signal it should be a solid hit right? Or will it be a mixed signal jumping all over the place? I'm just curious because I don't dig too many of those jumpy ones. Dug over a hundred plugs today, knees and back hurt :sadsmiley::sad1::sad1::sad1: Im only 28! Anyways here's my finds. Nothing special. That button looks kind of old, but no marks whatsoever. Some of my best silver coin finds were really nasty and scratchy signals. Dig everything!

I find a silver about every hundredth hunt. They are rare birds in my neck of the woods anymore. Do some research on some old well traveled areas and hope no one has beaten you to it.

Pretty rare for me too...In 2013 I decided to keep track of my silver numbers. I hunt usually only trashy local parks and Schools of all ages. I found 1 silver (coin or jewelery item) for every 264 modern coins dug. If I include trash digs, I got 1 silver item for just over every 500 total holes.

Got skunked on gold items for 2013, got some gold jewelery in the past, but don't even want to think about what my gold item per number of digs would be, cant' beat this hobby for ratio of fun per hour of exercise, though...best advice from me would be just keep diggin'. Gettin' lucky happens now and then too, good luck in '14!

Gold is harder because its not as conductive as silver.

Actually, gold is far more conductive than silver, which is why it's used in printed circuit board assemblies.

The reason why gold is more difficult to find than silver is because the magnetic return signature the gold reflects back to the MD is more in phase with the transmission signal due to its conductivity than the return signal of silver, which is less conductive and therefore more out of phase.

You can think of "in phase" and "out of phase" as the degree of precise overlap. The better the return signal overlaps the transmission signal, the more "in phase" the signal is.

Holy cow, you just made my head hurt. My retired roofer head is not in phase with what you just told us. :icon_scratch:

Yeah my problem is not hearing gold, it's that it is in phase with a million pull tabs. :)
