Duckys Thread - Georgia Panning and Prospecting.

That's a nice looking little creek. I like working small
water over bigger rivers, but our little creeks don't
always hold color.

Looked to me like your sluice was cleaning out a bit slow,
but then I've never used one of that style. Your pics have
shown very small gold, so you might consider classifying
down to 1/8" or even smaller. You'll have to dig more material
in order to get a bucketful to run in the sluice, but you'll end
up with more gold as a result. Smaller material will also run
better in that lower flow.

Awesome, thanks for the advice dizz!
I'll post some pics of the clean up here soon, I just dump it in a bucket for later. Also brought home a full bucket of pickle smelling creek sand from that same location.

I just realized how many times I said "love to hear what you guys think" LOL!

I think you did a nice job setting up the sluice based on how the material is behaving. Nice to have a small sluice for a small creek right?!

Man is it ever! although i cant run as much through it as i had hoped, it has saved a ton of time. too bad i cant get that 50"er set up in that creek. i could push a crap load of material through that thing!

Haven't processed the cons or the remaining classified material I brought home from the weekend yet. Work has been killing me. In other news I got 100$ in free amazon gift cards for having lots of points on my companies health insurance. Need recommendations for some stuff. Here's things I don't have as of now:

I know I need a scale, and maybe some small classifiers. What kind of other suggestions do you guys have? I'm not close to bedrock anywhere so not really worried about care acing stuff.

A decent scale, down to 1/100 gram; -50 and -100 classifiers ...that's the key stuff!

The key thing with finish pans in my mind is the smoothness of the floor of the pan and having a wide floor for a 10" pan. I use the Keene black 10" pan myself. I'd also recommend having two colors of finish pans: black to see the gold best and something else like green or blue that's helps you really see the black sands you are trying to remove in final finishing. I use a green soap dish from Walmart at that stage myself...a really, really smooth bottom on that helps get the gold REALLY clean.

One other thought, get a half dozen finish pans so you can classify into them straightaway to speed your finish processing.

List of items just purchased.

Gold Prospectors Handbook by Jack Black
Magnetic separator quick release tool
American AC-100 digital scale
Jobe Green treasure scoop
Keene 3 stage 10" blue pan
a set of snuffer bottles/ tweezers/ 2 suction tweezers
10 carabiners for attaching stuff to the outside of my pack
and more vials....

PHEW, i think thats it. still have $24 left!

Wow...quite a shopping list! All of the items will be useful,
and will help you find and save more gold.

That's a nice pan, and those small riffles really come in
handy when you're working material down to black sand.
I prefer green pans, but black and blue are both just as
good.

Haven't read the book, but it never hurts to get others
ideas on how things are best done, and there may be some
insights in the book that will put more gold in your pan..:occasion14:

i prefer green also, but i have a bunch of green pans. Just looking for something for a finishing pan mainly.

Here is all the stuff that arrived today the list is as followed: Scale, prospectors handbook, carabiners, scoop, quick release magnet, and my new Keene pan.
