My son found this a little over a foot down with my metal detector, it is 3x2 1/2 cast iron. Any thoughts on what it may be. I've exhausted hours searching on the web with nothing close?
Cast iron, should date it back to the horse drawn time. There was a implement called a hay buck which had wooden tines to slide up under the hay in the fields and on the ends of each tine there was a metal tip such as what is displayed in the picture. That would be my guess.
Excavator bucket wear part. It should be cast/forged steel and not cast iron (very brittle) since it is made to be more wear wear resistant than the softer metal the bucket is made of.
