WOW!!! I never thought I would find this thing over the weekend but here it is. I was using my TDI SL and got a decent signal and started digging checked pile and hole, then dug some more, finally got to this awesome plate at 18"! There were some guys there that wanted to take pictures and I could barely hold it steady I was shaking so bad. The applied palm on 1 side came off in the hole and the other has started to fall apart. The first picture is right out of the hole, the second is after very light cleaning with tooth pick.

Thanks for looking!!
HH

Thanks for all the kind words. Can anyone date this plate? The entire eagle raised portion appears to be attached and starting to come off. Most of the ones I have found online the eagle is cast in and only the wreath is attached.

That's one awesome find!!! Big high five!

I did a little more cleaning with water and a very soft brush. It looks like it was made by Alegany? or something like that, I can't make out the number just yet.

Gtoast99 just filled in the blanks for me on another forum, It's a "US/ALLEGHENY/ARSENAL". This style was manufactured 1853-1860. #546.

Now that is a sweet plate. I had a guy dig one just like that behind me in an old city park in Louisville once.
I walked right over it thinking it was junk. It was bent up though. The one you dug looks great.

nice Buckle ..congrats !
