The three detectateers were out today and were satisfied with the outcome. Kyles been talking about a certain area that we've driven by before on the way to another productive spot. We finally decided to pursue this site with a sunday detectathon. After I once again secured permission with the landowner we began. The site dates back to the late 1700's so we were hopeful. A large grassy field was in front of our jibs. A couple of wheaties were found by me and were pressing heavily on my brain. I began to get troubled. Not only that but my Vibraprobe began malfunctioning. It wasn't the battery because I tried Kyles battery and it still didn't work. Needless to say I taught it a lesson it won't soon forget. I broke it in half. It is now showing no vital signs so I will have to get another this week. It was many years old so oh well. The rest of the hunt was without pinpointer which sucked because I really rely alot on them. I did detect about 17 years without one so it was like going back in time. As it turned out I went back 204 years because about an hour later I found an 1804 draped bust halfie in great shape. It was 8 inches deep and a nice signal in very dry ground so don't let anyone tell you that analog detectors don't go deep enough. I love my XL Pro ! I also found a nice shankless silver plated colonial button. My partners were similarly endowed for the day but I won't steal their thunder. Thanks everyone for sharing this post and I can't wait for the next one.

I'm sure that turned your day around, nice one! ! As long as you didn't smoke the other side. :icon_jokercolor:

Nice find!!! I bet that looked great coming out of the ground. WTG

Other side looks good too. That one would stay dry if it were mine.

Chris,
Love that coin. Congrats on a super find.
Sorry to hear about the death of your Vibra Probe. :'( I'll PM you. Mine's been acting up too.

Thanks I.P. I'm not touching it any more. I don't need any detail flaking off.

Maybe 'lightly' scrape the dirt off a little with a toothpick but other than that I would leave as is. Looks very good if your dirt is anything like mine, and by most of what i see you guys post I think it is.

You looney, :D :D

I will never forget this metal datecting day. First, you chucked the darn pinpointer at a tree. :D Second, you snapped the darn pinpointer into two halves. :D Third, you looked over at me and said, "Snicket, 1804 Draped Bust half cent." Fourth, the look on Larry Miller's face after seeing the coppas. :icon_sunny:

You are true pro, CSZ. :icon_sunny: You are a true uttster, CSZ. :D

Lemony Snicket :D

Now thats what I call a nice coin. :o I've only found one half cent, but it made me feel better than all of the large cents that I have found. The halfies seem to be fewer and farther between in my neck of the woods. Hit that site again. Theres bound to be a bonanza of coppas there to be found.

You guys are sure makin' yer Shamokin ancesta proud of ya  WTG keep up the good work :-* the Richster

But what did the tree ever do to you? :D

Zeus,

You had one hell of a day today! When you told me that you found a Draped Bust half cent, I said, "Awesome!" Then, I proceeded, about 3 minutes later, to dig a Colonial. :D We both were striking it rich at our new coppa site!

I have a feeling that there are more in the Colonial dirt. We need to blitz this area suuuuper hard next week and add some more nice-conditioned coppas to our collection! :D

Just cruising until fall...

Being in the wrong place at the wrong metal datecting time. :D :D When the pinpointer hit the historic tree, it yelped out a big OOOOOOOOF. :D :D
