Found this at the boatyard, was a large clump of black corrosion.
after some cleaning, I find an iron box, car battery size, with brass top, sights, controls, & interior plumbing.
still an unknown object, then I found a small ID plate, 'Detroit Lubricator Company, model 6.the company was in business from 1894 - 1900. & also made carburettors

this appears to be a lubricator for a 4 cyl internal combustion marine engine.
cannot find an image of model 6. have included a pic of a model 5, for steam engine.
Thanks for looking, Great digs to all!

The company made oilers for both steam & early IC engines.
as this one has no bulbs for separating oil from water, and 4 sets of lines/controls,
I've figured it's a later model for 4 cyl Marine application, pre 1900.
Thanks for looking at this ugly piece!
(actually 6.2 lbs of brass here)

Tag looks like it reads model G, not model 6.
It is indeed, researching and finding a 'model 5a', then writing post without looking at pix, well, you know how it is.
Thanks BigCypress for finding that pic !
the auction item isn't in much better shape than mine!
