went to a local field not far from where I recently moved to and started to see bits of brick and broken pieces of decorated plate scattered thru out,not long after getting there I get a solid 81 on my T2.up pops a small silver coin and after clearing off dirt was glad to see a 1837 half dime in super condition. next was a eye find,i saw something pink in the dirt so I picked it up and notice it was a very old gemstone with a hole drill thru it so its possibly from a very early necklace.the next find I have never seen this type of coinage, very strange markings,is it a piece of pirate coinage from the 1600's? also found a couple of arrowheads too.the river runs along this field and Indians and colonists populated this area. the field is being planted tomorrow so this area will have to wait until the fall again but what a great way to end my time there.

i vote banner on that seated! thats so nice

do you have anymore info on that coin?

Yes, its called a copper Maravedis, I'm no expert but these coins, but they started off fairly round & each King re-issued them with there Monogram & or Crowned dates using a countermark. These marks can be read & help narrow down the time period. Its safe to say its someone like Philip IV or Philip the ?

here are the rest of the finds from yesterday.the partial pewter button looks like a 83 on it. lots of glass shards and some pontil bases too.can never get enough of these decorated buttons, one has some gold guilt lIMG_7149.JPGIMG_7151.JPGIMG_7158.JPGIMG_7144.JPGIMG_7150.JPGIMG_7152.JPGeft on it.IMG_7148.JPGIMG_7148.JPG

thanks for the info on the old copper, never found one before and I'm sure they are not a commom find here in NJ.

Some amazing finds! The stone looks like amethyst. Too bad that planting season will postpone more hunting. I would be marking down the days on the calendar until I could get back out there!

That seated is one sweet old coin. And a 1600s coin to go along with it. Congrats on an extremely nice set of finds!

Love the look of those starless seateds, congrats!

That's an excellent group of finds, including the buttons. Fantastic hunt you had!

Awesome finds ! :occasion14:
