Re: minelab explorer question!

yes its the same, the same, the same, just on SE much more better pinpoint. everything ells the same. good luck Stasys

Re: minelab explorer question!

I think the coil was different too on the SE. But not positive of that. But basicly the same. You wont be disapointed with the II. Take your time and get use to the sounds, and you will be finding the good stuff in no time.

Re: minelab explorer question!

Technically, they're two different machines. The SE is a little lighter in weight, and has a slightly faster processor(thus more user friendly menus) and a different coil (1050 coil on the Exp. II, and a much inferior slimline coil on the SE). The SE has some improvements in pinpointing. Depth wise, they're both identical. Some say the Exp. II falses a lot less than an SE when hunting around iron too. The SE slimline coil was to blame for that.

Hard to believe there's still an Explorer II on the market that only has 1 hour of use. It's a machine that's been on the market for many years now, and is no longer made by Minelab, but still supported.

You won't be sorry purchasing the Exp. II.

Re: minelab explorer question!

hello CAPTN Se, how it can be that SE is lighter if all plastic moulds is the same?? maybe just slim coil is lighter by 60-80 grams if you compare with old 1050 coil, but take coil cover from 1050 and its the same. about faster proccesor are you sure its faster??what I saw its the same? i can say even about etrac speed- its look the same like my old xs and all the rest explorers, did my self test looking and copying minelab video , you can make the same test with screw drivers heads and coin!!!! happy new year all Stasys

Re: minelab explorer question!

Hello Stasys!!
The stock SE is lighter than the Exp. II. The lower shaft is lighter on the SE (carbon), and I think that's the big difference. I swung a stock Exp. II before, and it just feels heavier on the bottom than my SE does. Bottom weight on a detector transfers into a much heavier machine when swinging it for a few hours.

As far as faster processor....yes, the SE has a faster processor than the Exp. II does. The E-Trac has a faster processor than the SE does. Thus, recovery speeds are slightly faster on the SE than on the Exp. II. The faster processor also makes selection of the menus much speedier. Even with the faster processors on the SE and E-Tracs, you still have to swing all the Minelabs fairly slowly in trash to find the deeper targets. The E-Trac will have a slight advantage in trash over the other Explorers by allowing you to hear good targets next to trash easier (which is why the E-Trac will benefit users that had little or no time using an Explorer before), but if you have a lot of time detecting with an Explorer, there's not much of an advantage.....if you hunt slow enough, you can hear and understand those deep/diggable faint whispers amongst the trash with all of the Explorers.

Re: minelab explorer question!

New SE vs almost new EX II I'd buy the Explorer 11 because I'd want the older coil. As for processor speed I agree you can get through the menu quicker, but who really cares about that. For detector recovery there is either no difference, or so little difference it would not matter in the least for someone starting out. I use an old coil on the SE and it's no different than the Explorer II.

PS.... If it was all about recovery speed most other top brand detectors, even the low end models would beat an explorer in iron, and they don't. So obviously there is more to it.

Re: minelab explorer question!

yes Dan you are right about lower carbon rod, its stronger but I am not sure its lighter? minelab did lower rod from carbon and glued bulky ABS plastic head-where coil conects..-bad design. I think its just stronger but cant say for sure if its lighter.need to waight. about fast menu I am with IP its looks like-fast just menu ,but not recovery speed, and they did this not changing any procesor in SE. etrac yes faster procesor-but I suspect it was made for faster response in screen. what I saw on minelab video I can repeat with my old XS. before this video I was thinking to get Etrac because I reached explorer max, but after this video i am calm like buda. I suspect minelab did nice propoganda job :hello: . Good luck Stasys
