So today I went on a sniping trip to the middle fork American. I got down there pretty early around 7 or so. I started down river to find the spot I found last year and wanted to try sniping. I came to this big bar full of cobbles sand and gravels and notices a lion print. Looked pretty fresh to me but didn't think much of it. I figured it could have been from the night before. I continued along a wall of brush and trees between me and the river. I saw an opening where I could see the water so I decided to go check it out and see if there was any bedrock to snipe. I came around the corner and the mountain lion who's tracks I had seen was standing right there about 5 feet away from me. He wasn't a huge one just a little bigger than a large German shepherd. As soon as I saw him I let out a "HOLY S***!!!!!!!" And started pounding my walking stick against the cobbles and ran towards him a little ways. He was gone in a matter of seconds.. Lol. Despite how I reacted to seeing him that made my whole trip. It's amazing to see one of those animals up close in the wild. I know he could have torn me to shreds if he wanted to but he didn't want any trouble he was just getting a drink at the waters edge when a human came along and started yelling and slapping a stick around. Well anyways after that experience I decided to turn back and find another area to snipe away from Mr. Kitty. I found an area where the bedrock slopes down and had some little valleys in it. So I threw my wetsuit on and jumped in and sniped until about 10:30ish the water level started changing pretty drastically. I think it came up about 5 or more feet in an hour. So I ended up getting flooded out of my sniping hole because I couldn't reach the bottom anymore and the water was too swift and cold for me to want to dive down over and over. Here's some pictures. One of the kitty tracks, quartz/gold picker I found, and the total. Only got a gram but would have done much better if the water level didn't come up. Video on the way too but it will take a minute because I have to post from my computer. The video isn't that great but it's pretty difficult to snipe and film at the same time. I just did the recovery of one piece that I found today.

I was in the LA area just months ago spent less than 5 hours in that hell hole. Unlucky me I had to move a family member of my better half. I will NEVER EVER go into that sh*t hole again. Why anyone would live there is beyond me. Traffic is a mess as far out as 50 miles from LA, gas prices are over the top, housing is a joke for what you get for the $$$, work is usually an hour or two away from where you live, and the Sterlings, Kardashians live there, need I say more...

Here's a pic of what I got yesterday. Only got 1.6 grams but still better than the previous time. Cant say the gold was worth the hike in there but was still fun. Don't know until you try.

Well, we have cougar encounters in common, and both of my encounters left me amazed at the beauty of the lions of the mountains, and somewhat rattled to boot.

The last one I saw was a huge Tom, and I was glad I just happened to be in my 4X4 when I came around the corner and he was right in front of me! If I'd have been on foot or on my Quad, I'm not sure how things would have turned out as I believe he'd tackle any living thing he had a mind to. He was the Apex Predator King of the lion family, that one was.

And, you're right, you never do know until you go!!

I've sure got myself into some tight spots over the years just by trying to know if some particular place held any gold.

NuggetN8, anytime that you can be outdoors enjoying mother nature will always be a good time. The lion you encountered was just as shocked to see you as you were to see him and the image you both saw is burned in deeply and most likely he will not forget. You taught the lion a very good lesson as well.

What do you think would have happen to little kitty had been outdoors? Maybe the dog in the background found out.

I don't think they patrol the area I'm going to but who knows... I didn't know they patrolled on rafts at all before so they might. I've found good stuff there in the past. I'm going to bring my rock pounding tools lol he wouldn't be too happy about that. We'll see what happens. I'll attempt to film some more too..

My adventure ended pretty quickly... Wasn't expecting this place to have so many stickery things. I didn't wear the right kind of footwear to go through this kind of stuff. Forgot what time of year they got really bad. Here's a pic of what my shoes look like after walking through them.. I'm sure you all recognize that nasty little stickery thing. I probably have a million of them on my shorts, socks, inside my shoes and in my leg hair...

Every time I float in my inflatable kayak drinking a beer I get cops on kayaks harassing me. I guess they don't have a leg to stand on since I am on private property living dangerously in two feet of slack pool water. I just pushed the creeps off my boat and tell them permission to board non granted.

Isn't it just terrific. They are getting paid a nice wage with even better benefits to go kayaking and throw their weight around. They ought to be picking up trash and cleaning outhouses
