A few years ago email was the hottie. Now it's Facebook or Buttface. Hum, maybe we should euphemize that a little and call it Behindbook?

I have had an account for a couple of years. Have family, friends, old classmates, and fellow Rugby players from all over the world I keep in contact with. Just today I got a reply from an old Army buddy I was in Military Police Academy with in 1978 that I haven't talked to in over 25 years. It is a good way to find old friends, but can have drawbacks like anything else in life. Used for a specific purpose, and in small degrees, it's a usefull tool.

"It was that Facebook that made me cheat on my wife!" "It was my computer that made me go to porn sites!" "It was my gun's fault that I held up that liquor store!"

Similarly, some want to deny the existance of GOD because then there is no reason to feel bad about anything they do. Of course, they figure that non-belief will be a good defense when they have to face him.

Facebook, myspace, guns, cars, knives, hands, and even eyes . . . none are bad by themselves. It's what we do with them that is either good or bad.

On more bit of information you may find creepy: Bill collectors and skip tracers (like me) LOVE the information we can get about you on your facebook or myspace pages! The information you leave IS accessible even if you have friends blocked . . . because search engines still find it.

It's wonderful that you can doctor your pages as you need to.

There have been several "skips" who were quite anxious to communicate with people from their home town . . . and I'm really glad to keep them up on the latest news. So, when I ask them where they went, they are usually all too willing to share. When I'm doing a locate, I can be anyone from an ex teacher to an old flame of either sex. Never go into too much detail, and let them guess who I might be.

So if you don't keep up your bills, watch out for a PM from someone like "yomamais sonasty" (actually had to retire that persona by changing the name on the account) be careful and make sure you know them or it might be me trackin you down!

That persona is even listed on "mylife(dot)com".

Keep after those deadbeats--Smee. I had a bad renter a couple years ago who took me for over $5000. He couldn't pay but he could get his big bass mounted and buy his kids very expensive toys. When he left our rental lakehouse he even stripped the copper wiring out of the garage and sold my aluminum dock for scrap metal! I don't even rent it anymore and it costs me thousands in taxes each year to leave it set empty.

As for facebook, I've been continuing my research and in addition to what I got here I've learned quite a bit about it.

It seems people either like or detest it. There really aren't many in the middle of the road on this one.

Like I think I stated earlier--facebook is geared toward mostly small groups that function as "cliques." Mostly a few within the group monopolize about 90% of all communications. Lots of others (Friends) will post but their postings are often largely ignored.

I'm on excellent terms with my very large family so I decided to join their facebook. I got tons of "Friends" fast but right from the start I noticed only about 50% of my posts yeilded any kind of response. These were like family videos and posts related to family things. No one would even click "LIKE" or even acknowledge it was there. In fact, I've made very direct posts to certain regular posting family members and they never even saw them though they were in plain sight for several days.

I have concluded that many who post to facebook really don't read the posts of those outside the special clique.

Families can love all members but really not care to commuicate with all members. Therefore facebook is prime for hard or hurt feelings. Personally I don't care and after 12+ years doing treasure forums I'm used to being ignored .

I've been reading a few things about facebook and things are not looking to good,or wont be looking to good, for people that have accounts on it.Feel free to correct me if im wrong,I dont think i am though.I'm repeating what i read with good intent and i dont mean to drag politics or anything into the thread.I just want to warn the good people here.A few days ago I read that the DHS is or will be attaching RFID chips to facebook accounts to gather information on the people who have accounts.Whether its true or not I'll just say i wouldnt put it past them.DHS is also saying that the socalled terrorists use facebook for recruitment purposes.Watch yourself people.

Most likely the information on a any given persons account will be installed, downloaded,etc into a chip.How they do it i have know idea, im no techie so im just repeating what i read and i have no reason to disbelieve it.

I did . . . and the story at webmonkey is about attending (BEING PHYSICALLY PRESENT) at the Facebook Developer's Project, F8.

The RFID chip was attached to a badge so they could track your movements WHILE PRESENT AT THEIR MEETING. Why? Who cares, as they'll have to do better than that to track what I do away from Facebook.

As for what I do ON FACEBOOK, who gives a rat's butt? None of the information they have from me is real, I log in via anonymous proxy, from inside of a sandbox. Kinda like using 3 "raincoats" on a date. Ain't nothing getting through, and if it does, it goes out with the rest of the "kitty litter".

It all depends on your intent and expectations.

I think it is a very useful networking/marketing tool.

Example: I just opened an art store for the holiday season with 5 other local artists and we use Facebook as a marketing tool. We can share photos of the space, displays, new items and specials we have going on any given day. An effective way to reach all our friends and family members near and far.

Great idea!
I guess I never thought of FB as a good business tool.
