I revisited the early 1900's farmhouse permission site and gleaned some more goodies yesterday. People and horse buckles, including part of a child's (?) sash buckle. There were three RLO's (ring like objects) that always make the ATPro sing. Part of an aluminum spoon, pieces of old bullet lead, and another old pocketknife.
Also found two more pieces of an Ingraham pocket watch, a "Show Me Missouri Brand" button and a "Doz-Fit" button, and interesting octagonal shaped cap believed to be a furniture piece marked "Burns & Bassick Co., Bridgeport CN." This company had this name from 1907-1916.
What really made my day was this FIRST-FOR-ME find of a CROATAL BELL!
I know that these are no big deal for our east coast hunters, but we here in SW Missouri don't find too many of them because our state is "too young."
This one is in excellent shape, about 1 1/4" in diameter, and still does its ding-a-ling thing right nicely. It has no markings on it. If anyone can help me date or ID it, I would be thankful!
Another pleasant and interesting surprise, (realize that the farmers on this property were "dirt poor" and had few fancy things) was this small, fancy, brass brooch/adornment. It was probably plated at one time and had small, round star-patterned stones inset on the front. It is the diameter of a US quarter. Interesting characteristic...it is marked, verbatim, on the reverse "MADICZECHOSLOV." Anyone with any ideas on who made it and when?
One thing about this site, it looks like nothing more than a grassy hilltop (known as a baldknob here in the Ozarks.) But the goodies keep coming up, so I will keep detecting! Thanks for looking and I wish all of my TNet friends Happy Hunting! Sub
