Nice find, they are indeed hard to come by. Check the reverse, you might be able to narrow down the date depending upon what is or what isn't on the back......

1320 is referring to the reverse orientation of the eagle whether or not stars are below the eagle. The mintmark is on the obverse.

There are what looks to be 3 stars below the eagle on mine.
Type 2 ,date was recessed in 1925 because coins before it kept losing the date so they corrected it ,i bet yours is before 1925
I found my first one just 5 days ago ,with no date like yours .Congrats i was doing the happy dance LOL

Thanks, Now I have to find my first buffalo nickel.
Ill trade you a dug buffalo for it. :laughing7:

Re: Finally found the coin I've always wanted to find.

with 3 stars its a type 2 --1917 to 1924 era most likely since they recessed the date in 1925 * no mint mark = philadelphia mint

so high % chances that its a type 2 - 1917 to 1924 philly mint coin.

I had my fingers crossed for no stars on the reverse...oh well, still a great find. I would also agree that it's likely a pre recessed date. Regardless of the date, the mintage numbers on the entire series was pretty low and highly coveted by detectorists! I have only managed to find one in all the years I've detected.

Awesome find! :icon_thumright:

I saw one of these coins on TV last night. AMC is doing "Mob Week", and the scene in The Untouchables where Frank Nitti has to empty his pockets out at the courthouse a SLQ can be seen lying on the table.
