:laughing7: I hope everyone will play along. Rack did the point game and Ill do the pottery game. There is 3 piles and only 1 pile is pottery. I find so much lookalike pottery in the creek. See if you can pick the rite pile. This will be fun.
1, 2 or 3 your choice and one pile is really pottery shards.
Lets see your skills, rock

If number one is slate like he said..there would be no question once you touched it..they feel nothing alike.

I just need to touch real pottery! Should be getting help with the soon, right Rock ;)

The probable slate I have is very light and brittle.

Yes Im sending it. GB the florida pottery so quite a bit different than the types we find in this area.

I think what this and the point thread showed more than anything is that judging by only a photo is far from reliable in most cases.

Glasses....8-) Never thought of that... So yeah, the chump got stumped. Not the first time either. Great game! Let's place another! HH, Yak

I was playing with ya but I do wear glasses when I am on the comp. Glad you enjoyed the game.

I have pottery from Florida Georgia North Carolina South Carolina and Virginia on the east coast rock.
I do not mean this to sound rude but you only just found your first pieces of pottery in your life just recently.

Yep and quite a bit. We did a trade a yr ago and the Fl pottery you sent me was kinda chalky. The GA pottery isnt that texture at all.

I'm not going to keep going back and forth.. but like I said I have Georgia pottery..quite a bit actually.
Alot of it I picked up off of two sites on Tybee Island.
The texture is going to be different in many places all over Georgia and Florida.
It depends on the local material used for clay..temper ..wet site..dry site.. how it was fired.. ect..
If you get on a village site in your area where trading was done you will find many types.
All of Georgia pottery is not like the few pieces you've found.
I'm glad you started finding some.. it's a good sign that you're close to a good site.

Ok we dont have to go back and forth then. Ill take your word for it cause I have only found most of it this yr. In one location mainly.

Rock I find pottery like yours in a creek just over the VA. line. It's tough to determine what is at first. Like you mentioned it doesn't sink like stone does.

What do you mean by sinking? Does it take longer to hit bottom? You know, like how a feather kinda goes back & forth? I've probably got all kind of pottery I've thrown back in the creek...

When you got the package take them to the creek you hunt and put them in the creek and watch the action and movement of the pottery. Also note the color of it when in the creek.

Maybe someone could video it.

NCnursery, I can tell you from experience you will not find pottery in your/our fields. I know of one spot in Person co. That pottery can be found. It's near Hagars Mt. I'll share the spot with you if you want to find pottery. It takes a day to walk in hunt a couple hours and get out. I know a spot on Buggs island that yields pretty nice amounts of pottery. Mainly game pieces.

Only Person Co. Pottery I have found in my life.

That would be a neat idea. But the creek I go to is closed now till after hunting season. I hunt one field 6 months and then another 6 months. Besides the creek I hunt is 2 inches in most sections but then other is 6 ft deep and you have to swim. So no camera action for me.

Looks like#3 to me.
I was the 1st one to call 3 "#3 as I think I see some concave form indicating a vessel of some sort......tough to tell without handling. #2 looks like limestone." Sep 06, 2013, 10:32 PM

What do I win? :headbang:

I just gave you a Like. Thats your prize, congrats
