First find of the year for me.

We've had no snow to speak of an almost no rain so my creeks are not only nearly dry they haven't gotten up enough to flush the leaves from last fall out. Sooo....there hasn't been much to look at so far this year. Today I went out to look for shed deer antlers and do a little deer scouting. My route took me across this little ditch and I couldn't help but stop and look for points for a little while. Found this one after less than 5 minutes of looking. From that point on the shed hunt was over and I was scouring the little creek for more points. Didn't find anymore....

That's a neat thought isn't it??

Would you classify it as side notched or corner notched. I look at examples of both on the web and in books all the time and I'm constantly seeing a picture of a point classified as corner notched that looks side notched to me.

def, a side notch point as is has slight " basal lobes" at each basal corner

on a corner notched point the base is not as wide as the shoulders are, the basal cirner is like the tip of a triangle point not squard or even rounded. a corner notch point looks like a leaf shaped blade with stright, concave or convex base. the notches are worked into the cutting edge of the blade leaving some of the edge below the notches. Archer!! i would class this point as a notched expanding stem point.. to me many ID'ers mix these three types of points, i think the big sandy is a side notched point while pine tree or lost lake are coner notched points. that to me leaves your point in notched expanding stem type. which i think is a cross between the other two.
