first for me

looking for a cw camp on my freinds place, eyeballed a cuff size eagle button
this spring. lots of glass and metal along with the best site I have for arrowheads
so I brought out the detector a week or so ago and found a button back but I
didnt have a hole lot of time to swing. Went back out there today and boy did
I do some digging got a couple of minis a couple pistola balls, mouth harp,
part of a harmonica reed, shot gun head stamp, a couple whatisit's and the best
was a shield nickle (1876) which at first I thought was a 2 center until I got home and
rinsed off. first shield nickle for me. Should I clean and if so with what?

Congrats on that find, nickels are tough especially the shields! I've only found one before as well. Glad to know you got a date off it, I never did get mine. too worn and small. great find!

thanks for the replies guys, it put a smile on my face, even old girl congratzed me, usualy she rolls her eyes
when I come home all muddy and pockets full of rocks and metal. HH guys

! If I had to guess on the 2 pieces, I would say both are from a lantern? The wick went thru the round piece? Do you think the flat piece is smashed, slots on other side too? HH!
