First ring find: need id help

Okay, I finally heard the clanging of a ring in my scoop...sounds completely different than coins or trash. It was a nice sound. I know its not gold or silver. I do not think it is steel because it is not attracted to magnets. The inside has markings on it that looks like "USA." That may not be what it says but it certainly looks like it. Anybody got an idea about what type of metal it might be?

me too, most of the silver I find comes out gunmetal grey like this....... +many 925 stamps are really poor and hard to find / read.

Good find. As mentioned before silver will oxidize in salt water and turn that color. How heavy is it? The pic was a little blurry, if it's really heavy I'd guess tungsten. But I lean more on the .925 side.

Sorry about the blurry picutres. I'm not sure what happened with them. I have some silver polish at home. I will give it a little polish to see what it looks like. I will also dig up a magnifying glass and see if I can get a better look at the letters/numbering on the inside. I do not have a scale so I can't give you a great idea on the weight. It is too light to be pewter, too heavy to be titanium. Hematite has a lot of iron in it so I think it would respond to magnets (don't know for sure.) Tungsten crossed my mind as well. Does Tungsten usually get stamped with anything? Thank you for responding. Will post better picture later tonight.

An easy tungsten test is they usually sound like a nickel with the MD.

Okay, I broke out the silver polish and the magnifying glass. What I thought said USA actually says 950. As you can see it shines up pretty nice. Definitely silver. Thanks for the help!

At .950 it might be platinum.

Clean it..... especially the inside TI and other like metals sometimes have a very light marking. Looking at it...... id say 925 as well.

According to google .950 is non-magnetic, 95% platinum. Congratulations...

definitely says 950, no doubt about that. Who would have thought the first ring I found would be platinum? Talk about beginner's luck. I'll get a weight on and try to polish it better.

Make sure it doesnt say MEXICO after the 950..... or its silver. Congrats on the PL....
