Well, halves have been meager so I thought why not do a mini-road trip in a 3 hour span. I decided to hit up the dimes pretty hard since I hadn't searched dimes in a while. Results are Ho-hum.. just okay I suppose but I was thinking about gas the whole time and how much it's gone up.
First Bank: $500 worth of dimes: 1964 (Canadian dime - first Ag Canadian dime for me), 1948-D, 1954, 1964-D
No Halves. They actually asked if I had any since they said people had been calling about them.
Second Bank: $500 worth of dimes: Skunk (lots of 2010-D's)
$40 worth of halves: Skunk
Third Bank: $500 worth of dimes: 1945 Mercury Dime
No Halves. I saw what they had in the tray and didn't bother with the clad in the tray.
Fourth Bank: $500 worth of dimes: 1947, 1963
No Halves. They gave out halves to someone yesterday.
Lot of driving.. ok results.. dimes are tough to make anything on but I'll take it. I could've kept going but I was hungry and called it off. One thing is for certain, people have been asking for halves left and right. Hard for me to find any CWR ones. I will say the tellers were nice and friendly. They didn't have problems with me searching there. I expected to have trouble on at least one bank but nope they were all nice about it.
It was the first road trip for me and man, I don't know how you guys can pull off an all day road trip.
It also made me wonder about the dime shorting situation. I bring my scale while I search. I only had one $500 set where it was accurate. Judging from my experience with dimes, they are usually off at least one dime per $500 (sometimes off by 10-12 dimes) and I've been looking at them for about 1.5 years. I just wonder if it's some form of way for them to make extra money. Anyone seen the "Office Space" movie part where they decided to take a penny or a fraction of a penny from everyone's account so no one notices? After a while, they got a decent chunk of money. I just think that these Brinks companies are involved in something like that. Consistantly, these boxes are short more often than not. I wonder how much money they've made off this considering they have constant money going in and out of their system. They get away with it in dimes since there's so many of them rather than halves.
On why I weigh my dime rolls. If they are short and I dump them at another bank, that bank may send those rolls off to be counted. If the rolls are off, that would reflect badly on me and perhaps even this hobby. Thus, I weigh the rolls while I'm there at the bank so there will be no complaints in case they get sent off to be counted.
